It should be called Dumb and Dumber Adventures
I mean, I love the show, but seriously, these have to be some of the dumbest people I have ever seen. Their decisions are just ridiculous.

With the exception of a few who actually found themselves in harms way, due to no fault of their own, the rest should have vanished for making so dumb decisions.
sharehehe I couldn't agree more. I was thinking the same thing, like the two guys that tried to go kyaking at night in a place famous for rip currents, and one of the guys had zero experience !?!?! I'm glad they made it, they seemed like nice guys but wow was that a dumb idea.
shareOh yeah, there is a list of dumb people that should have vanished...
shareThese are just the stories of the people who do these dumb things and survive. There are plenty of people who don't survive from their dumb decisions. Just watch 1,000 Ways to Die on Spike.
The common bad decision I see in a lot of these episodes is the not taking a cell phone when going to a fairly remote place. There are two I've seen recently that stick out in my mind. One, the woman adventure racer who goes out for a canyon run with her dog in Utah and ends up falling about 20 feet and breaking her pelvis. She was planning on a run of about two hours along a route she had run before. The first thing I found confusing about the whole thing was how she fell in the first place. She wasn't a novice. She was an experienced adventure racer. And this wasn't some trail she had never run before. You'd think she would know the trail a little better and know areas where she should be careful if the footing wasn't the greatest. And then the cell phone thing. I don't usually bring a cell phone when I run, but then again I'm not running in some remote Utah canyon. It's just common sense. You hope you don't get in a situation where you need to use it, but you bring it just in case.
Second, an episode with two boys who go out fishing in the ocean off the coast of South Carolina and end up getting sucked out to sea when they get stuck in a rip current. Again, they leave their cell phones in the car. Stupid. Another thing that got me was that they didn't seem to follow proper rip current procedure. Maybe they did do this, but as far as I could tell they used up all their energy trying to paddle against the current. Aren't you supposed to paddle perpendicular to the current to get out of it? If you do that, you're still getting pulled out but eventually you get out of it and can then paddle to shore. Maybe they did do this, but they didn't explain to clearly what they did once they realized they were in the current. If you paddle directly into the current, it won't do any good.

Tears of a rapper...
I dont leave myself phone anywhere. The two hikers on date form hell was beyond stupid. Once they saw they could not go anywhere, they should have headed back and gone a different route.
shareI think the only episode I've seen where the subject didn't put himself in the situation or do something incredibly stupid was the skydiver episode.
shareDidn't see that one yet..
shareTrue. The skydiver one is truly an incredible survival story. Just a pure will to live.

I agree, don't leave home without it. And I'm talking about your cellphone.
sharethe only thing is...s lot of these stories took place a decade or two ago when cell phones werent so popular cheap or worked in locations other than a big city. but yea a cell phone today is just a few ounces and can save your life
shareSkydiving...what can go wrong!
shareYeah, I don't even like to drive in my car without having my cell phone. You never know when something might happen.
shareThey seemed like douchebags to me. Ultra-competitive idiots risking their lives to go hit on women at naked hot tubs.
shareUnless you've been in such situations as these people have been in, you have NO right to be calling anyone dumb.
A man does not recover from such a devotion of the heart to such a woman!
Actually I do.... when you make dumb decisions, you are dumb. BTW< I have a right to say whatever I want. If you don't like, too bad, but YOU have no right to stifle my opinion. If you have a different opinion, offer it. Otherwise you can take a rowing boat and try to cross the atlantic ocean in the winter.
shareYou can't call something dumb unless you do a similar dumb thing yourself? That doesn't make sense.
I've always thought that lady that got lost hiking in the Grand Canyon made some incredibly stupid decisions (like leaving her backpack with all her supplies behind). Trying to duplicate something like this just so I can call it dumb seems really unnecessary.
These people are dumb for putting themselves in this situation.
That's why we aren't in these situations, we're not dumb.
Pretty simple.
That's retarded. The only way to not put yourself in a dangerous situation is to not do anything ever.
A lot of episodes were people doing what they are passionate about, like hiking, sailing or mountain climbing.
thats a little harsh most of the ones Ive seen have been unfortunate accidents that led to their circumstances.
shareJust watched the ep where the older couple got stranded in the remote desert all because they decided they decided it would be a smart idea to test out the husbands truck on the extremely rocky terrain to "see what it could". Like seriously you're old, out in the middle of the dessert, no one knows you're out there, you have no food and water, and no cell phone service wtf were you thinking?
shareI so agree. I've been watching this show for years, but even more so lately since I discovered there's a few seasons on netflix.
It's so frustrating to watch people make terrible decisions. They get themselves into trouble with poor decision making... then they some how manage to make it even worse once they're already in a rough spot with even more stupid moves. Also more than just being "dumb"... a lot of the people on this show have too much pride which contributes to their near death situations. I couldn't believe the one teenager who PUNCHED A BEAR IN THE FACE. He had already gotten himself in trouble by wandering away from his hunting party and getting lost... he was already brutally attacked by the bear. When the bear stopped... he PUNCHED IT!? like... SERIOUSLY? I can not type enough words in capital letters to properly convey how flabbergasted I was at such a stupid act. If he would have played dead instead of trying to get revenge by throwing a punch, the bear wouldn't have proceeded to rip off half his leg and causing his situation to become exponentially worse.
The Palm Springs hikers are another example of being full of pride along with being full of dumb. They're trying to impress eachother while making poorly thought out decisions. "oh hey, we walked only 10 minutes away from the summit of the mountain and we're lost. what makes more sense? trying to get back up? since we already know for sure there's a way to get back there somewhere since we walked it already? naaaah lets venture down the 90% of the mountain we haven't trekked and see what happens!" I couldn't believe that their reasoning to head down instead of up was because they saw a stream and apparently in their world, streams always safely lead you down a mountain with absolutely no valleys or waterfalls in the way. These people were good hearted, but lacked common sense. It was very cool though how they got help from a deceased hiker before them... that was a very interesting touch to their story and it's crazy how everything came full circle in terms of dates and situations.
Like people have said previously, the only episode that didn't consist of somebody doing something completely irresponsible to get themselves in the situation was the skydiver. He did everything to take control of a terrible situation, and it worked. You could tell by his recounting of events that his thought process during the events was responsible and not reckless. He was very eloquent with the retelling of his story too. One of the best episodes I've seen. Also another episode that didn't make me facepalm multiple times was the ones with the hikers in Kyrgyzstan. They actually had a satellite phone and were properly prepared for survival. It was just completely awful luck that their rescue helicopter crashed... I mean... that's really something. That's what really made their situation dire and helpless. But thankfully most of them made it out alive. I guess maybe the lesson there is that patience is a virtue... they had the option to go on the military snowmobiles but opted for the helicopter since they wanted to get home faster. But I guess you can't blame them really. The only really stupid thing was the local guides who decided to start drinking vodka after the plane crash. But that's just how things work in eastern Europe I guess lol. It's a good thing they weren't stranded for much longer after that because it certainly would have accelerated dehydration.
