Clooney and Heslov are such hacks. Their losing streak makes me so happy
Two critical fails and box office bombs in a row for this director/writer/producer pair
They should have left whatever the Coens had written completely intact because there is no way these two arrogant gas bags could possibly improve on a Coen screenplay in any way
Suburbicon is a boring and morally simplistic imitation of a Coen Brothers film. I have no doubt that Clooney, one of the best Hollywood game-players in the industry, added that African American family subplot in order to bolster his chances of winning an Oscar for writing or directing. The problem is that he has no talent as either a writer or director (he's also an extremely overrated actor)
I'm glad that both audiences and critics are starting to get wise to this self important, Cary Grant/Frank Sinatra wannabe's cheap tricks: suck up to actual auteurs like Soderbergh and the Coens, learn their process and techniques, imitate them in a superficial way, and have the entertainment industry fawn over you for over a decade
as for Grant Heslov, the only noteworthy thing this guy has ever done in his career is ride Ben Affleck's coattails to a free Best Picture Oscar. Affleck, as limited as he may be as an actor, is a genuinely talented director and probably a talented writer, which is much more than Heslov or Clooney could ever hope to be
