what do you think?

I really am excited to see this movie, but just wondering, aren't there a lot of movies being made were a man is a little antisocial, a little messed up, and then a woman walks into there life, who is annoyingly spunky : ) and they become a wonderful, lovable character? I'm thinking Elizabethtown, Garden State, stuff like that, and I'm sure there are more. What do you guys think?

It sounds much darker than Elizabethtown and Garden State. I'm looking forward to this film and I'm hoping it is better than both Garden State and Elizabethtown.

Saw it last night at the Santa Barbara film Festival, and I assure you, it's nothing "Garden State-ish" at all-- It is a much colder, darker psychological piece.

I saw it tonight at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal, great movie, beautifully shot, the music set the mood very well. The acting was top notch espiecially Joel who also co directed it. I was extreamly pleased with the film...if you get a chance to watch it..go for it. I'm pretty sure this one is gonna get a pretty wide release and if not..it definately deserves so.

I definitely caught a few similarities to Garden State. Most notably the use of certain indie songs to help convey the emotion of the film and it's characters, like when he sees himself or a little boy who reminds him of himself at his mother's funeral. Also Amber played the role of the beautiful and easily accessible perfect girlfriend who comes along at the perfect time, as was done by Natalie Portman in GS.

The tone of this film is much darker though, and I'd have to say its what would happen if Donnie Darko went to visit May in the Garden State (or the Garden State in May lol).

Some of the visual techniques were very similar to those used in DD, and the main character behaved in a manner not unlike May. The obsession theme was particularly of note.

"I admire its purity, a survivor, unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusion of morality."

Garden State? Donnie Darko? Not so much...

To me, Spiral is a better, darker, and more stylish version of ROMAN.
