Feel Like I'm in the Minority Here...

...but I actually enjoyed this movie. I watched it directly after I read the book, so I realized they made a few small changes (combining Hillary and Ethan), and left out some details that was in the book, but it really didn't seem as bad as the reviews led me to believe. I thought Hudson was perfect as Darcy, and her and John Krasinskis on-screen chemistry was hilarious (I've also read Something Blue). And while maybe Colin Egglesfield isn't the GREATEST actor in the world, I just liked looking at him; no shame in that whatsoever.

So what didn't you like about it? Or better yet, did anyone else enjoy it?

reply

I actually enjoyed it, too. I read the book after seeing it and while I noticed the changes it didn't bother me. John Krasinski definitely made this movie in my opinion, and I, too, loved looking at Colin Egglesfield :)

reply

I didn't read the book but I did enjoy this movie. I also enjoyed Colin.

reply

I enjoyed the movie first, then the book afterwards, even better. Taking them in that order, I got to picture the actors in the roles as I was reading the book, except for the book Darcy being a tall brunette, and yes, I enjoyed the handsome prize of Dex/Colin. Another change was that Claire was not so unlikeable in the movie. Also, in the book, Ethan did not confess in the end that he wanted to be with Rachel; she did not have to turn him down cuz they were just good friends, they only confessed that they had both once liked each other while in highschool, but Darcy had ruined that.

I just enjoy a happy romantic ending for the deserving leads (I know it's arguable to some that they're deserving), although they both had made wimpy choices which caused the dilemma in the first place.

The only thing I would've changed about the ending in the book, it would've been nice if Rachel could've gotten a call from her mother apologizing for everything after she learned that Darcy was cheating on Dex and got pregnant.

reply

That would have been nice, but I feel like the mother's so moony-eyed over Darcy that it would have taken aWHILE for her to come around and admit her mistake. Although in Something Blue Darcy's parents basically disown her, so maybe Rachel's parents called her around then?. Also even though I knew Darcy had dark hair in the book, I still kept imagining her as a blonde. Not really sure why so I enjoyed Kate Hudson regardless of hair color.

Anyway, glad to see I'm not the only one who enjoyed this movie haha. It's no Oscar nominee but a good popcorn night with friends sort of flick.

reply

Right, just an enjoyable lightweight movie. A lot of people here are on a morality high horse about the cheating, I say it's only fiction, and none of them were married.

reply

I watched the movie them read the book, because usually if I read the book then watch the movie I'm always disappointed...that being said I enjoyed this movie, I don't agree with cheating so that kind of bothered me, but nonetheless I like it.

I love this movie! And unlike what some people say, I think this movie showed a good side of friendship- that even despite everything that happened, the girls were able to still care and love one another. The ending scene with the girls on the street showed that. I love this movie so much. I don't know why people are being so harsh about it. It's not meant to be poetic masterpiece! But it's still good :)

I agree with you.

Glad to hear it! I really did like this movie a lot! I've watched it several times.

I thought it was a great movie for what it was. A rom-com.. not every movie has to be deeply profound with tons of hidden meanings. Some movies are just to be enjoyed. This is one of them. It's well cast, has some laughs and can be
Watched more than once.

reply

I liked this movie, also.

reply

I thought the movie was alright. It's entertaining but I don't know if I'd watch it again. I didn't sympathize with any of the characters except for Ethan. Darcy was just plain annoying, and Rachel and Dex are just dumb. It makes me so mad when people are not sincere with their feelings. I understand that they had it rough with the whole wedding thing but omg they didn't seem like mature 30-something year olds but teenagers going through puberty...

reply

I love it. It's a guilty pleasure of mine. I'm embarrassed to admit how many times I've watched it.

You most definitely are not alone. I have it playing now for the seventy-second time. Watching it is like slipping on my favorite pair of jeans...it just feels good. It's a guilty pleasure. Maybe it's because I see myself in a couple of these characters and it makes me miss living in NYC, longing for both the city and the Hamptons in summertime, or maybe I just can't get enough of John Krasinski's sarcastic side. Either way, I simply love this movie.
