racist?

This movie assumes all white people are rich and everyone else is poor but talented. Solange's character is so irritating, arrogant and disrespectful of Hayden because she is white. Hayden has to prove to the poor kids she is a just as good because of her skin colour.

Hollywood should stop doing movies like this full of stereotypes its embarassing.

reply

Agreed - I am not especialle sensitive, but as a white person I must say that this movie's depiction of whites was outright insulting.

reply

Ah, the white victim card again. in this day and age its like whites are the only victims of racism these days *rolls eyes*. This movie is insulting to all groups involved, which is basically almost every major race in America. The Asian girl is a martial arts master? There is a typical dumb blonde character(which is present in many all white movies, but no one complains then), all white people are wealthy(which is also an element present in TONS of movies, but somehow it becomes an insult when placed in a movie with black people).
The latina girl has got the token ''spicy latina attitude'' and speaks Spanish and blah blah, saying ''Papi'' all the time.
And the black people in this movie are shown to have nasty attitudes, big booty, always eating, always saying stupid comic relief things(which the black characters always do in 80% of movies- the whole ''damn thats whack!'' and ''Heeelll knwaaaaww *beep* cracks)

and also what i have learned from this board, is that it is totally ok for white people to say ''white trash'' to each other( why not just ''trash'', is is a significant enough event for a white person to be trashy to the point where it is such a shocker that we have to exclaim ''wow a white person is trashy!''), but the use of the ''n-word'' is not good for black people to use amongst each other(which has now evolved to mean ''brother'')
white trash and *beep* usage reveals a double standard.

No one in the movie was calling the Asian girl "Hey Asian chick" or saying "Hey Mexican!" to the Latina. But there were loads of times when black characters were calling Hayden "White girl" like she was a faceless entity with no name. It was dehumanizing. She didn't even have the privilege of being seen as an individual, she's just another white girl. That is racist.

And speaking as someone who grew up near the Mexican border and went to high school in a town that was majority Mexican, I can definitely say that racism against whites exists considering I was called "White boy" for 4 years. The only ones that used my actual name were my friends. So sorry, one group doesn't hold the race card. I experienced it, and I can tell you if anyone at school ever said "That Mexican guy" even if it was to describe someone, they'd have ten Mexicans in their face asking what he/she meant by that. Yet I and the other minority white kids were called by our race and weren't even special enough to have people remember our names. That was awesome.

Everyone was stereotyped.

I'm tired of hearing about how hard it is for white people and how racist people are towards white people. You have literally just told that other poster that the white girl had it the worst out of all the offensive stereotypes because they called her "white girl." Pathetic.

reply

White people are stupid! Always crying about any typical little comedy sterotype in movies! This is not "Mr Rogers Neighborhood" where everyone will keep shut about race! If someone says the word "White girl" or "White boy" when your dumb ass is the minority there why get offended???? Especially in a situation when you come from a rich neighborhood with a pretentious attitude!

reply

"Typical little comedy stereotype in movies"? So, pray tell, how often do you hear black people, or Hispanic people freaking out over black or Hispanic stereotypes in films and shout racism? If your answer is anything other then an "absolute shit ton" then you're either an idiot or being completely dishonest. Your comments are very typical of the hypocritical racist that shouts at white people for feeling insulted or outraged by clear racism directed towards them but would stand hand and hand if that same racism was pushed upon minorities. You are being moronically hypocritical and you don't even realize it. And you show your racism with your first comment. "White people are stupid!" What if I said that "all black people are violent criminals" because black people commit over 50% of all violent crimes and murders? Would you call me racist? I'm not stating a dipshit opinion like you, the stated opinion I made had some level of truth and fact, but what I used to convey those facts was a highly false, overtly racist, and extremely offensive blanket statement that criticizes the entirety of a race when that is CLEARLY not true about the entire race. I bet if I had stated that in a serious way and not in a way to point out your hypocrisy you would've lost your shit and called me racist. Don't be a hypocrite. White people aren't the only people capable of stupidity (which is very much clear here), and white people aren't the only ones capable of racism (which is also very clear in this comment section). Stop trying to hide your racism by calling those outraged by being treated in such a racist way "stupid", "pretentious", or claim that people need to "keep shut about race". Yes. You should practice what you preach. Don't be racist towards anyone. Be it white people, black people, Asian people, Hispanic people, ect… An overly simplistic concept that is apparently impossible for some people to accept. Any one of any race can be racist. You would be surprised at how racist Asians, specifically Japanese people, can be to blacks. Racism is NEVER justifiable, regardless of race. If you actually argue against that fact, then you are a racist. Period.

when someone burns a cross on your front yard get back at me with the whole, this movie is racist against whites kinda thing. BTW the whole movie was full of stereotypes, they had the Asian girl claim she could kick ass because she had a black belt! Funny how you forgot to mention that bit huh?

reply

Uh, no. Calling someone an offensive name based on race is racist, and only ignorant racists would say otherwise.

Maybe someone will burn something on your yard, THEN you'll be so quick to shriek "OMGZ RACIST!!!11!!" and blame the nearest whitey by you.

Why would they forget something that had absolutely nothing to do with racism huh?

Bone, it is what it is.

I got the joke. Problem is it wasn't very funny

"Oh, Britta's in this?"

reply

Yeah this was definitely a *beep* racist movie, white people are not rich but poor. Therre are LOADS of poor white people in places like Texas.

reply

Couldn't believe it when the Asian girl was called "Crouching Tiger!" There no way that would have been allowed in a British film, but America seems to have lower standards when it comes to racism.

reply

It's not that we have lower standards. Racism is racism. Regardless of what form, who it's directed towards, or what they use to try and justify it. But we actually have free speech and free exchange of ideas. The UK has laws that ban "hate speech" which can be literally anything the government wants that term to mean. Sure we get our share of racism, but we don't strip people of their rights just because their opinions and ideas are disgusting or controversial. A human has rights, and we don't get to deny them of those rights. Regardless of what they say or who they offend.

reply

The message of this movie is wrong.
