No Golden Globe nominations? No SAG noms? No PGA noms? Not even any BAFTA noms?
Boy, this movie is losing steam.

shareGood, it must be a good film.

"...Not even any BAFTA noms?.."Due to the lateness of its release in London, Silence will qualify for next year's BAFTAs
From all accounts, that doesn't seem to be the case. They appear to simply have been shut out of all BAFTA categories while being eligible.
http://screencrush.com/2017-bafta-nominations/
That is incorrect.
It was not eligible for 2016 awards in the UK. It did not open anywhere until its London opening on New Years Day, 2017.
In the US, it qualified because it opened in NYC and LA on December 23.
I'm from the UK and I'm sure release dates have nothing to do with it. Garfield is Bafta nominated for Hacksaw Ridge and that isn't released in the UK till late January. I think Silence is simply being snubbed for reasons I can't comprehend, considering it's had glowing reviews. Even if critics think Scorsese has won enough plaudits for one lifetime and they favor Garfield's performance in Hacksaw, the cinematography was breathtaking and I can't believe it's being overlooked.
shareTrue, I think it's because it is to do with religion.
shareIt has to do with CHRISTIANITY being shown in a more positive light.
If it was ripping it apart, THEN it would be nominated for everything, including Best Animated Film... because Hollywood really hates Christianity (but loves Scientology... go figure...) and is just plain terrified of offending Islam in any way shape or form.
Hacksaw Ridge is also pretty pro Christian as well for those who saw it.
shareNo. THIS is incorrect. Films that open before the Bafta ceremony on February 12th are all eligible. Did it not occur to you that La La Land, which received more nomination than any other film, opened after Silence?

La la land opened before silence. It was playing in many festivals in november. And it had a worldwide release in december.
Silence had a workd wide release in january.
So la la land was released first.

"...They appear to simply have been shut out of all BAFTA categories while being eligible."BAFTA rules state that
"...Thursday 15 December – Films released in the UK after 1 January 2017 must be screened to BAFTA voters by this date to qualify..."To the best of my knowledge, the first UK screening for Silence was in late December (I've discarded Paramount's invitation)
I don't see anything about Silence being ineligible for the BAFTA's anywhere on the internet. Could you guys post some links? All I see are journalists stating that it was shut out, not that it was ineligible, which was the case with Elle and Isabelle Huppert.
It's possible they had limited screenings in the UK. I saw the film on Friday, Dec 16th in LA at Paramount. Scorsese screened it for the Pope in Vatican City in November, so presumably they had the ability to show it in the UK between then.
It was eligible. This is nonsense.

A film has to be released before their award ceremony to be eligible. So any film released before February 12th is eligible, I've seen BAFTA members posting screeners of the film on their Twitter so it was eligible. BAFTA probably didn't like it or it didn't get seen by enough people since it had little buzz due to its late release.

"A film has to be released before their award ceremony to be eligible. So any film released before February 12th is eligible..."This is not correct
what I said is not incorrect though, if a film is released after their ceremony they cannot compete, that's what happened with "Elle", the studio informed people on twitter that "Elle" was not eligible because it was getting released after the ceremony airs.
Does BAFTA release an eligibility list like AMPAS to see if it was truly eligible or not? It makes no sense for Paramount to send screeners to BAFTA if it wasn't eligible.
Well, it's only out by two days. The very link you posted states: "Friday 10 February - All entered films to open on general release to the public by this date."
Given that films are generally released on Friday, I think this is pretty much the same thing as saying they need to be released by the 12th,

It's not losing steam at all. It's release date is in January 2017. To be considered for this years Oscars, it would have been released in December 2016 to stay fresh in the memory of the Academy of Arts And Science and the Hollywood Foreign Press, as well as the BAFTA's.
The New York Rangers suck. And Sidney Crosby is a cry baby!
This isn't the first movie with big awards potential that Paramount botched the campaign on. In 2014 it failed to get screeners out in a timely manner and it appears they were late once again.
shareI'm going to be pissed if it doesn't get nominated for any Oscars. It's the best film I've seen this year.
shareSilence was a very welcomed sight for sore eyes this year. I enjoyed every single second of it.
But, Moonlight was the film of the year. I just cannot believe that Silence is coming up empty on everything in regards to awards. Even the cinematography was excellent and I haven't seen it up for a thing. I'm confused on this one for sure.
TERRIBLE distribution!
the film has limited release in USA! which is ridiculous!!! why because no real star attached? NO LEO in the lead role!!!
the distribution should have has a bigger presence in the christian religion countries first!
south America, South Korea, Italy, etc! Opening to a limited screen in usa and then spreading it around the world slowly wasnt a good idea.
buit this movie wasnt going to be a blockbuster! it was a passion project for marty like GANGS, will do great on Blu ray! TV, cable etc..
Hacksaw ridge has made 150 million for MEL with not the best distribution, because he opened in CHina and made a killing! chinese like to see the Japanese being killed! LOL
silence might have a huge run in China! lets hope so..
of course it opens in Japan, must have already passed the censorship board in japan.
because it opens there this week.
silence might have a huge run in China! lets hope so..
yeah, and i really liked this movie. perhaps one of the better movies i've seen lately. very thought-provoking and moving. good for religious and non-religious alike for me.
