Complete silence at BATFAs

A huge injustice. It deserved at least Nominations for Best Director, Adapted Screenplay and Cinematography
I do believe the late release meant that very few saw it. Paramount really dropped the ball. Still, there's always the Oscars
shareLet's hope so. But sadly it could simply be anti-Christian snobbery from the elites at Bafta.
It bemuses me that they're so desperate to nominate a film like I, Daniel Blake and talk about increasing diversity, and yet the British film industry is still overwhelmingly an old boys' club of public school and Oxbridge educated actors, directors, producers and critics with little access for the working-class and anyone who comes from anything resembling Daniel Blake's world.
Typical neolib hypocrisy and faux 'virtue' signaling.
So unbelievable amusing how you take offense to this... the film just got released. Get a grip!
OH NO - IT MUST THE "ANTI-CHRISTIAN SNOBBERY FROM THE ELITES"!!!!! What BIGOTS!
*eyeroll*
Or maybe it's because it's overlong, self-indulgent, repetitive, and tedious.
And lacks the wider historical context that might explain character actions.
What are you talking about? The run-time fits perfectly for a Scorsese film, I found myself absolutely transfixed by the film for all 2 hours and 41 minutes of its run time. its technical elements are excellent, The way Scorsese realizes this world and its setting though is absolutely astonishing. The cinematography is downright awe inspiring. The score and even the sound is so brilliantly used here as you deeply feel the sequences in such a remarkable way.
I guess the film may depend on ones personally brings to it, especially due to Scorsese's storytelling methods. I found Scorsese's approach mesmerizing for me as Scorsese presents the facets of the stories which can contain moments of such beauty along with true unmistakable horrors. I ended up finding it be utterly profound. What I can say though is I found it to be the most powerful film all year.
I don't know what dumb way you see cinema, But this film is fantastic.
It's dull as ditch water. One of his worse films.
shareI heard they all fell asleep watching it.
shareJust as I thought.
This is an Oscar Bait film tailor made only to get awards, and it's not even getting that many. it's mostly getting snubbed at every single one.
It can't be that good.
Yeah, Scorsese is such a hack director, right? Duh!!
Fücking cinematically illiterate morons.
It isn't eligible for this year's awards in the UK.
It opened in London on January 1. It expands this week in the UK.
It will be eligible for the 2017 awards in 2018, if anyone in the UK cares to remember it, by then. Maybe it will even give it time to develop a following, who knows?
Anyway, that's why the London Film awards and the BAFTAS shut it out.
Now, in the US, it DOES qualify for this year. However, it was finished so late that many awards groups' voting members had not yet had the chance to see it, yet. The Golden Globes, for example, had the nominating process end the week it was completed. So, no nominations for it. Several other groups, like the Critics Choice Awards, ended their nominating process BEFORE this film was even finished or screened. Now, on the other hand, there now have been several voting critics groups and Guilds that have had time to see it, and are still ignoring it, anyway. Like the Producer's Guild, where it was completely shut out. This nearly assures that it won't likely be nominated for Best Picture by the Academy.
Anyway, the film is out now, there have been numerous screenings, and the studio even mailed screener DVDs of it to all Academy members some weeks back. The nominations will be announced in a couple of weeks. We'll see if the Academy recognizes it at all.
It got a nom. from the Cinematographer's Guild, for what it's worth. Some fans of the movies still believe it's got a chance to be a last-minute Oscar upset. Who knows? It might steal Hacksaw Ridge's spot in many categories, both are religion-themed movies but Marty is certainly more beloved than Mel.
Darth Vader is scary and I The Godfather
Mel got nominated and Scorsese got snubbed!
