Rodrigues was so disgusted by Kichijirio because...

If you have to ask...
shareDo you want to explain this at all or..........?
shareRodrigues had a visceral contempt for Kichijiro because he saw his own frailties reflected back at him. Both men were, in fact, cowards.
shareThey both preferred to live for nothing rather than die for something.
shareGood point...But that is from the view that Rodrigues lived for nothing and not living so others can live. Some would argue that is a choice worth making. However some would argue that the choice Garupe made, dying for what he believed alongside his fellow believers is the choice worth making. The film doesn't explicitly state what is the right choice or what is the wrong choice.
I think I lean more to the Rodrigues making the wrong choice. Indeed it could be said that although he held on longer that Kichijirio did, when he reached that pivotal point, his heart made the same choice. They both stood by as they saw their people die only to give in to the ones who killed them.
