Quick before the boards close, can anybody tell me, was Rodrigez a prisoner in Japan even after he satisfied them with his apostosy? Could he have returned to Portugal or was he a captive by the Japanese?

I'm pretty sure he was a captive, they used him to keep Christianity from taking hold

Thank you. That's what I thought, but I wondered. I don't think I remember him ever asking to leave. It was so sad what happened.

He was essentially a prisoner in a gilded cage with a wife, house, and servants but always under watch and required to repeat his apostasy.
