This is nearly impossible to see

Only one theater in my city is playing this and it was only a two week period. I couldn't catch it in time, so I guess I will have to wait for it to come out on DVD. Bummer, I wanted to see this on the big screen.

reply

I feel very fortunate that it played two theaters in my area, one for three weeks, one for two.

I managed to see it three times.

It's gone after today, though.

Hopefully, the blu ray and DVD won't be long for all the people who didn't get to see it.

I'll buy it as soon as it's released, too.

April is the projected DVD release date; retailing for about twenty Uncle Sam Lucky Bucks

reply

Jesus, seeing it once was excruciating enough. How could someone watch it three times?

reply

LOL

Some people would like the chance to see it once.

reply

I could watch it many times.

And I catch new things every time, too. And become more and more emotionally engaged with every subsequent viewing.

Mark my words, this will be a classic after some time. In the future, people won't believe it bombed when it first came out.

reply

I pretty much agree--hard to see, really hard to watch. Issei Ogata as the Japanese inquisitor was excellent, though, and there were some good sets (Macao/Taiwan?)

reply

People have different opinions you know, Just because you have a short attention span for cinema doesn't mean you should start attacking moviegoers of this film.

reply

Likewise. The first week it was at one theater near me (after two theaters had it on their website as "coming soon") which was a very bad week for me to find any time to go.

The second week it went from 3 showings a day to only one showing and that showing was at 8:00. I simply can't get to a movie that will let out at 11:00, especially on a weeknight.

Granted this movie was never going to be a massive box office hit, but Paramount's handling of it was beyond incompetent on so many levels.

reply

The DVD screener is available online.

Don't support on line piracy.

reply

I am not, just stating a fact.

reply

Most rubbish being produced now doesnt deserve a paying a audience. And with the string of massive budget films bombing because no one is willing to pay to see them, and will illegally download them instead.. I for one support people doing this. Forcing hollywood to bring more quality out out on a regular basis to combat people not bothering going to the cinema because of bad reviews.

Yep, same here. I work 2:30-11:30 and spend the mornings home with my son. So, I have a two day window to watch movies. Only one showtime each day.

I was miffed when I saw it was gone after two weeks. But we still have Girl on a Train, Passengers, The Accountant, Sully, Jack Reacher, and whatever the hell Resurrection of Gavin Stone is. Not to mention all but the Alamo Drafthouse and the indie theater are playing A Dog's Purpose, with three of them having 15 showtimes per day.

I get that it's a kids movie and whatnot, but does Omaha really need 70 showtimes per day of A Dog's Purpose?

"The Resurrection of Gavin Stone" is a movie being marketed to some Christian audiences that is doing even weaker business than "Silence." Interesting it gets to hang around while "Silence" is dropped so quickly.

I caught the final showing in a theater relatively near me... at 10 PM. It was only playing at 10 PM. God am I glad that I was able to, but it shouldn't be a surprise that this didn't make immediate millions when I have to go so out of my way location-wise and time-wise to see it. I do wish the DVD would come out sooner.

reply

Just curious: How many other people were at a showing for a nearly three hour movie that started at 10 PM?

reply

Well, the first time I went, was to a 9:45 PM show, and there was my son and me, and about 10 other people. This was on the 6th of January, on a Friday night, when the film first opened in my area.

The second time, was at 6:30 PM, on a Friday night (the 13th.) at a different theater that it was just opening at. Again, with me there was about a dozen to maybe 15 people.

Finally, I just went yesterday, at 12 noon, on Thursday (the 26th.), its last day here. There were 6 of us, counting myself.

It's gone, now.

The rumor right now is that it will be out in April in the US on Paramount DVD and blu ray.

It is due out in May in the UK from Studio Canal.

reply

Haha, it was me and one other movie geek. 2 people in a huge theater. I enjoy empty theaters, though. Less a$$hol3$

reply

I live in Boston, a major city. For a few weeks, this was at only a couple theaters and only at 9:30 pm. Now, it's closed there and I would need to drive 40 miles to Worcester for the closest theater where it is playing.

WTF. The box office might have been less than expected, but it's a fvcking major Martin Scorsese movie dealing with profound issues that deserves to be seen on the big screen. I don't get how this is possible for a Scorsese film.

"Boy that was really exciting. I bet you're a big Lee Marvin fan aren't ya."

reply

It doesn't matter who directed it. It's a bomb so theaters pulled it. That's what they always do.

reply

This movie is not for the masses. Brilliant film that is paced perfectly with minimal score and breathtaking cinematography. A powerful film.

I am so angry. I checked my local showtimes this past Tuesday and what do you know, it was showing at my theater but that freakin' blizzard passed through and could not be able to make it and when I check the showtimes for Thursday, its not there anymore. Instead we're getting a bunch of free animated kids movies playing as well as a few Christian cashgrab flicks.

I've seen Goodfellas, Shutter Island, The Wolf Of Wall Street and Hugo (unfortunately not in 3D) and enjoyed all of them. I was so looking forward to this.

reply

I know what you mean, I did a google search and found a theater showing the movie, but it was 20 miles away and only had 2 showings, 7:15am and 8:20pm. I mean I know they don't expect this movie to do that well, but damn.
