Donna's role?

Can someone explain why Donna showed up to Charlie's court hearing and then subsequently wanted to hang out with him at his new apartment? This part I didn't understand at all.

I'm sorry I don't speak computer-ebonics, please type in English.

Donna immediately sensed a sadness in Charlie. She was initially attracted to Don Cheadle's character, but realized that it was a mistake.

The more she learned about Charlie's personal tragedy, the more she realized she wanted to care for him & be there for him. The remark w/ Liv Tyler's character outside the courthouse confirm this.

Maybe Donna had someone she loved die on 9/11 and can relate, or in general lost someone, therefore making Charlie someone she could relate to.

Donna "lost" her life when she discovered her husband had another wife and he divorced her (Donna). She told Allan that she sensed a sadness in him and thought they could help each other.. I guess as her coping mechanism?

She was wrong about Allan, but found out about Charlie in the process. I think having someone to help, helped her deal with her own problems.. and Charlie is completely alone. He obvioiusly needs the help and companionship she has to offer.

Who discovered we could get milk from cows and what did he think he was doing at the time?

so she could deliver the great line:

"why can't they understand he's just got a broken heart? It's so broken, his poor heart."
