District Attorney

The scene in the courtroom with the photos broke my heart. I found it reprehensible that one person could be so cold as to do what he did to Charlie. Baiting a man to break down just to get him committed? Heartless.

Adam Sandler was truly great to watch in this film. People have a hard time letting go of his screwball comedy movies, but when they can, this is a movie to watch. He nailed that role.

Yes I agree and the DA also had the gall to challenge Liv Tyler's character's age, insinuating her lack of experience when the DA himself looked about 12 years old.

Was the DA played by Fred Savage? Don't see the credits for the DA anywhere.

reply

That guy wasn't the DA.

reply

He is listed in the credits as Mr. Fallon, played by B.J.Novak.

Aka Ryan from The Office

I got a question about that scene. The mother and father in law seemed to really want to have him committed, to the point were the father was going alone with the whole picture thing. Did they want him in there so they could take his money? Maybe they would be legally entitled to it if he was committed.

Although they seemed genuinely caring in the scenes after that.

reply

No it was just a misguided attempt to help him. They wanted their son-in-law in their lives since he was the last piece remaining of their daughter and her family, but he had been avoiding them for years and exhibiting strange behavior. I think they felt like they needed to force him to get help after the suicide attempt.

it's hard to understand the whole in-laws thing, I mean, sure they knew he needed help, but the very thing they wanted was making it worse for him.

They wanted for him to keep remembering and all that crap... they should have just back the F$&#&&$ off and leave him be.

the whole lamp thing was just stupid. Maybe they did want some of the money....

reply

Yes, I found that scene utterly despicable too.
