This might be a stupid question, but i didnt understand it:

What was the court case about. Why were they people For and Against Charlie? He wasnt a criminal so i dont understand why there are lawyers fighting for and against him

The family and staff at the hospital wanted him committed to the hospital, i.e. he would be forced to live there. A judge is allowed to make that decision and that's what the court case was about.
