Falls thru the ice and the cops don't come to his house?!?!?

So David falls thru the ice, all the kids at school think he's dead, he comes home soaking wet and tells his dad the kids at school did it. Next shot in Millie upset in her bedroom thinking David is dead, you're telling me the cops wouldn't have stopped at David's house to tell his father he fell thru the ice and drowned long before this? I love the movie, but that's got to be the stupidest opening I've ever seen...

I clearly remember a scene with cops talking to David's dad soon after he got home soaking wet. You may need to re-watch the movie. Awake this time.

I clearly remember David getting home, then leaving to see Millie, then coming home again, and that's when the father was talking to the cops. Seems like the father called the cops after David disappeared from his room.

Judging by the way he's arguing with the cops I'd say your interpretation is incorrect. Nice try though. :)

Yeah, I had a hard time with this also. My take was that David came home, talked to his dad, and left. The the police show up to tell the dad that David is dead. But there are rumors that David is alive and about.

Dad thinks David is dead and believes the brief visits that David makes are possibly his mind playing tricks because he can't explain them. But he knows that David is alive and in trouble.

This is the only thing that I can come up with the explain how he just shows up in the bar and know one is freaking out too bad.
