WILL DIANA EVER REALIZE WHAT SHE REALLY DID??

I just happened to watch the movie and thought that it was a brilliantly made one...kept me hooked to my seat the entire time!!!At the end of the movie though,i couldn't help but wonder about how Diana kept cutting Beth off through out the movie[which,in a way,did result in increasing Beth's frustration time and again] and how she became the "victim" of the entire situation at the end[with her leg cut off and all]and the fact that she never will realize that she'd brought it upon herself...she actually deserved what happened to her[and a lot more]!!
And i know that it's only a movie,but I'm sure situations like this occur in real life too...and the sad part is that more often than not,we never get the other half's story!

Yeah, the coincidence of Diana "cutting off" Beth added to Beth's frustrations. But so does everyday real life. Beth maliciously set out after Diana. It wasn't Diana's fault that Beth was having a bad day, hell, a bad life and could no longer deal with her own frustrations. If it hadn't been Diana, it would have been someone else. She almost killed herself and her son earlier.

I think what triggered it the most was when Beth's car stalled and wouldn't start...that cannot be helped.....Diana rudely sat there and laid on her horn..Beth out of frustration got out and hollared at Diane and said her car stalled...Diane rudely told Beth to move it anyway because "she" was in a hurry! Sadly there are people like that in the world. I have been a victim of rude drivers screaming and cussing at me when my car has stalled in the middle of traffic. When people act like a horse's ass over stupid things like that...it does send you into orbit....but I never went as far as hunting them down...although I would have liked to...I didn't....There are a lot of rude people in the world that think the world revolves around them. Sad, sad, sad!

I think Chio was right basically in the post, EXCEPT i dont think it was just her telling her rudely to get it started, She almost TOOK her arm off ZOOMING Passed her. Of Course Diane was wrong for the outburst, in the end, she was trying to help her, and got shot. Too many guns in America, which I guess brings us back to Bowling for Columbine. If No gun involved, no one woulda died.

So nobody should be allowed to arm themselves under any circumstances? Actually that wasn't an issue at all in the movie, the gun just happened to be there and Diana used it, for whatever rational or irrational reasons that she had in her mind at the time. The Columbine massacre was a pre-thought out act and perpetrated for far more sinister motives. I'd give Diana a break on what she did.

Beth did attack and chase down Diana. She had vandalized her vehicle while she was in it. I'm not siding with beth losing her temper and then going off and losing it by chasing her down. She is not an innocent victim here. we all get cutoff every day. get over it. beth broguh her own problems on herself by chasing the person down. After the way she acted, and what she did, how was Diana to know she wasn't going to do more to her.I don't feel sorry for Beth.

Maybe Diana IS aware of what a selfish, greedy soul she was because of when she says, "If I had it to over again I'd do it differently". She was only an example of how typically greedy modern women are..........want EVERYTHING!!! Pefect Everything! So SICK AND NASTY.

Im late to the discussion, but just saw this movie on LMN last night.

As a side note, I am not sure this movie was supposed to take place in the US (when buying the telescope, the character paid for it with Canadian money) so the statement of Americans and guns could be nil as a point in speaking of this movie.

I think being cut off on her way to work by Diana set off a domino effect of events that may have played out differently if Diana had not cut her off making her late for work (at least on that day).
She was late so she missed an important delivery, got fired due to tardiness and having to chase the delivery person for the paper (which would not have had to happen if she was not cut off and got to work in time to meet the person).
So her being cut off cost her a job, which really set her day in the wrong direction.
Diana at least 5-6 times cut someone off, almost pulled out in front of someone or similar actions.

I think the main character went after Diana after she stalled and Diana was rude to her, almost ran her over pulling around her so quickly, and I also think the main girl recognized the sticker Diana had for her sons school on her window. At the beginning of the movie the camera focuses on the sticker after she is cut off, and then again after she almost hits the main girl towards the end. I think when she realized this was the woman who cut her off and then almost ran her over, it was too much to handle and she snapped. Between the actions of the day and knowing that some of those actions were caused from being cut off that morning, her ex wanting her son, and so forth she snapped.
She was wrong for snapping and taking it out on Diana the way she did but Diana the entire day drove like she owned the road and cut in front of other or did other disrespectful forms of driving. I don't think Diana would have recognized where she was wrong, as her rememberance of what happened started at the stalled car not in the morning knowing what her actions were and the reactions to those actions. Diana was self absorbed most of the movie and at the end she was not much for showing remorse. She shot the main girl in fear but really I think the police at the end say it all - the main girl was dead she wasn't there to tell her side of it, and Diana was obviously claiming self defense based on the 911 call not the entirety of the day.

WAMC,

there was no issue about Americans and guns, the poster above who mentioned that was just plain mistaken in not even noticing where the movie's events were located. That poster brought up a theoretical issue about whether or not Diana should have been armed but, as I said, that wasn't even discussed in the movie at all.

The movie took place in Montreal, Quebec, in Canada. That's a given.

BETH was the name of "the main girl." A full viewing of the film certainly should have left you remembering that, not just that the other woman's name was Diana.

You may remember that Beth's car clock showed that it was already 8:38, past the 8:30 time that she was supposed to have been waiting at the office for the package to arrive. Had she not been cut off on the highway then she might have lucked out in that Greg Stoner, the messenger, apparently was also late in delivering it, he was just leaving the lobby as Beth was arriving. Still, Beth can't, in retrospect, demand that her luck have been better due to Diana's cutting her off, she contributed her own share of recklessness to that event. Had Greg Stoner been on time then Diana's actions would have meant nothing, Beth was already late before being cut off.

Modern woman, what is THAT supposed to mean? That women are just now turning into a-holes the way men have ALWAYS been?

Diana had an upper management position in her company which gave her far more leeway in regards to being on time for work. I'm not saying that she wasn't expected to be at work on time, but if someone in a position such as Diana's position is late for work it is normally overlooked and certainly would not have put her job in jeopardy. On the other hand Beth's job was a low paying clerical position which does not have the privileges and "perks" that upper management positions have. She was expected to be there on time every day and it was never acceptable for her to be late. For Beth being late was an almost sure way for her to get fired which of course is what ended up happening. That is what bothered me the most about the Diana character. She had an advantage that most others on the road in the morning didn't have - she COULD be late and it would be okay. This particular issue I'm sure never once occurred to her. She just selfishly went around cutting people off, only thinking of herself and not once did she consider that other people might not have the advantages she had and could possibly lose their jobs if they were late.

beth was the wone who resorted to violence. We all get get off or the middle finger throwmn our way, that isn't worth chasing somebody down or vandalizing their vehicle over. As far as I'm concerned Beth got what seh deserved. You don't go causing someone to crash and get hurt and not expect some seriosu repercussions. She acted like a crazy violent road rage filled nut you're apt to get hurt or shot in Beth's case. You don't act like bloodthirty perp and expect to greeted warmly. Beth realized too late what she had done.

I've never read so much hypothetical bullsnot in my life. The movie is about road rage, what leads up to it and the final consequences. Yes, the movie was filmed in Canada, ie: Canadian money, road signs. Does the writer intend the story to take place there? I don't know, but if that was the case than Diane shouldn't have had a gun in her vehicle. This movie is not about gun control though, is it? If everyone would leave for work just five minutes earlier and relax, then the world would be a happier place to live. That is my hypthetical bullsnot folks. Coming straight to you from a former over-the-road truckdriver who has witnessed more than his share of road rage.

agreed but what some people here don't realize is that Diana also had road rage her not looking before she came out the garage, her constantly cutting people off IS a form of road rage the point is they are both responsible for for what went down. As you can see at the end Diana did sort of acknowledge her part in it. That whole rant Beth wen on while vandalizing her car is kinda what ntolabs meant Diana clearly thought she was center of the world on the road that day thinking others weren't running late or had to get to work like she did. Now a days people are crazy and do chase you down and crap for cutting them off like that or they retur the favor, I think the lesson is if you can't safely switch lanes then don't do it lol. Beth didn't have to take it that far though, but Diana did not have to shoot her.
