What happened to Scout?

I missed last weeks episode but managed to watch it last night, and there was one thing that bothered me. What has happened to Scout? At the end of last series, she was a mousy, messed up little thing. Now she is a blond with some serious attitude. Why have they tried to change her into Sam Kelly. Scout's character was fine as it was.
