Is this show still mean spirited?

Haven't been a lifelong fan but I watched a fair bit of the season where there was some blonde mother, whos daughter ran away, as head teacher and then when the Scottish guy took over. The thing I hated about the series is just how mean spirited the show was (is?) there is no real balance between the negative and positive aspect. Every episode is formulatic. The good people set up an event. Some prick ruins it. The good persons/s are humiliated. End credits. Nothing nice happens to anyone. The show is just depressing and hateful and I hate that. I'm not saying the world is full of rainbows but this is distasteful.

I see a lot of redemption in the show between characters, unlike you - I think you've just chosen to see it in a negative light.

I only caught this show a few years ago, I wish I'd seen it from the beginning, but luckily, unlike Grange Hill, all of it is on DVD so I've been able to catch up from the start.

Besides, who can hate that great theme music?

Some good stuff does happen, unfortunately the writers have decided that drama creates more of an audience though. Even then, it's not proper drama imo.
