The whole scene with his friend in the house makes ZERO sense

So I watched it again tonight in the first time since 2007 and it the scene makes so little sense!
So his friend is freaked out that he left his phone in the car of someone he suspects is a serial killer....he goes into the garage and finds a bag with a carcass in it (he assumes it would be human) and then he runs through the house screaming and knocking crap over and plays a practical joke on his friend.

Like seriously, in what universe does that seem like a remotely realistic action in this circumstance?

reply

I watched it last night and, whilst I enjoyed the film for what it was, that scene was total nonsense. It would be obvious to his friend that he'd come running for him and violate his house arrest once more, so there's no way he'd have done that.

Completely illogical.

reply

Yep me too, watched it on Tv last night,
He runs through the house, Screaming and knocking Lamps over etc, What would he possibly gain from that? :S
I swear a few minutes ago He was too scared to break into his Car?

But what MORON is so STUPID that after an ordeal like that and letting his alleged FRIEND (what the hell kind of friend does that to somebody?) would pretend to be dead and think it's funny? I would've beaten the shlt out of him if it were me.

Yeah he did, but that's the point. Ronnie KNOWS what's going on just as much as Kale does and is just as suspicious that Turner's a killer so WHY is he so stupid he thinks it's something to joke about?

Yeah, I don't get this scene. Was Ronnie actually being chased? Otherwise, he was running through a house that he had just broken into making noise that would obviously awaken the man he and his friend think is a serial killer...makes no sense.

People have a sicker sense of humour than others?

It's not sick, it's stupid, and if he's that dumb he deserved that beating to the head.

I was so upset at the end that he was still alive.

Agreed.

I agree. I feel like they rewrote the film in the middle of shooting.

There was also another "makes no sense" scene AFTER the one you mentioned.

Scene:
After Ronnie's prank, his mom tells him that she will go over to Turner to apologize, so that he doesn't press charges. She says specifically that she will go over there this instant, despite Kale's objections. Cut to next scene where Kale noticed that his mom is going over there and seems really surprised that she did what she just said she would do ("Oh *beep* What the hell are you doing, Ma?".

Ooh! I just thought of another one!
Ashley follows Turner and even goes inside the store with him and sends Kale pictures of Turner ("a live feed" as he calls it). What? He didn't believe her so she had to send him proof? It's just so unnecessary and makes no sense. Why not wait outside and watch his car? This is after all the same girl who suggests a stake-out (so it's clear she understand the concept) when she first hangs with the guys.

Sloppy writing!

also why wouldnt Ashley lock her windows and doors while inside the car. perfect car-jacking victim right there.

I'd REALLY like an official explanation of this entire scene from the director.

The way I saw the scene, Ronnie running through the house wasn't part of what he considered the joke. He really was scared. I took it that he hid somewhere in the house or snuck out while the police were there without getting seen.

The joke part came from him hiding in the closet and sending the text, making it seem like the killer was using his phone. Then he pretended to be dead in the closet. He said he didn't want the police to catch him breaking and entering into the killer's house, which makes sense.
