A Year From Theatre to DVD?
woah.
shareIt's a Christmas movie and Christmas movies don't get released either in theaters or on DVD until November. The same thing is going to happen with FOUR CHRISTMASES, and of course has happened with all Christmas movies: ELF, POLAR EXPRESS, BAD SANTA, etc.
Let me be the first to wish you a Merry Christmas! Ho, ho, ho!
four christmases is a bold statment but wow i didnt believe it either when i saw it was just coming out on DVD i had to look it up. did this movie suck that much or what.

You're right. HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS was released on Nov. 7,2000, and the DVD didn't come out until Nov. 6, 2002.
THE POLAR EXPRESS was released Nov. 10, 2004, and since it was released again the following year in teaters, the DVD didn't come out until Dec 26, 20055
ELF was in theaters on Nov. 7, 2003, and the DVD wwas released Nov. 16, 2004.
The same thing happes with every Christmas movie. Theatrical release is usually in November, and DVD release is October or November the following year.
And take my word for it....FOUR CHRISTMASES wo't be on DVD before October 2009
Christmas movies just don't sell until November, whether they are in theaters or on DVD, and that's why they don't get released until the Christmas season is approaching.

Actually Bad Santa came to DVD in the Summertime.
shareYou're right, and I was wrong in including BAD SANTA. Another exception to the rule was THE NATIVITY STORY which had a normal DVD release date in March after the December theatrical release. However, those are the only two exceptions I know of to the basic rule of Christmas movie DVDs coming out a year later.

Deck the Halls was the same way. Came out in late 06 and came out on dvd in early november 07, whats funny is it was on cable a few weeks later which is odd since there is usually a few months between a dvd release and cable airings.
shareI suspect that the movies that are major bombs at the box office get on cable sooner. For instance, the DVDs for last year's Christmas movies (FRED CLAUS, THIS CHRISTMAS, NOELLE, THE PERFECT HOLIDAY, CHRISTMAS IN WONDERLAND) are all being released a year after the theatrical release, but THE PERFECT HOLIDAY and CHRISTMAS IN WONDERLAND, both of which failed miserably at the box office, are being shwn on cable in December.

Yep, this is exactly why these movies aren't released until the proper season. As I already predicted, it's quite unlikely that FOUR CHRISTMASES will be on DVD until about a year from now, and next year's A CHRISTMAS CAROL isn't likely to be on DVD before November of 2010.

Who would buy Fred Claus if it isn't Christmas?

Arrested Development - The Movie

Apparantly, lots of people are buying it from all reports. Including me. It is a molvie worth owning for those who tune in to the theme of sibling rivalry.
Have yourselves a Merry Little Christmas! Ho! Ho! Ho!
