The only reason why this has such a bad rating...

...is because it's a christmas film.

The general spine of this film could easily be turned into a film that wasn't related to Christmas, and people would prefer it. Personally I think this film is the greatest Christmas film I've ever seen.

The portrayal of all the characters was spot on, but its just a shame that people watched this and didn't appreciate all that because in the back of their mind they were thinking "Oh great, another christmas film".

Not because it's a Christmas film, but because it's a very BAD Christmas film...

a movie about santa's brother could be turned into something other than a christmas movie? would it be an easter movie?

Hilarious :S

I meant the main basis of the story... (essentially a man who feels hard done by his brother who is running what would appear to be a very successful business and he gets a chance to ruin it etc)

i just watched it for the first time last night. so now, taking your suggestion, and removing the santa factor.... this movie would be absurd. it needs christmas as the backdrop to keep the audience from noticing the flaws. it seemed to be similar to elf in the regard of ruining a business to make it successful.

i'd probably watch elf and christmas vacation before this one, in a holiday movie marathon.
