Did anybody else feel sorry for Kevin Spacey's character, Clyde?

Did anyone else feel really sorry for him towards the end, when Santa is talking to him about how he wanted a Superman cape? He wanted one so he could stop being bullied. Kevin Spacey acted so well (as usual) in that scene. Brilliant. I feel sorry for Clyde.

What about you?

Yeah I kinda felt sorry for him at the end to

Officer Michaels: I'm assuming you all have guns and crack!

reply

Yeah, I think that was the point. I love how Kevin Spacey, aka, Lex Luthor, wanted a superman cape.

reply

That was the point. His character was not a bad person was just venting torwards santa for being ignored.

reply

Yep, definitely a sympathetic character at the end. Quite well done, I thought.

lol i laughed at that bit.. thought it was a bit ironic :p

I thought it was a fantastic scene - two great actors making a mediocre scene so heartfelt - it was brilliant! I completely felt for Clyde. That was one of my favorite scenes in the whole movie :)

My husband and I loved that scene, too...I was kinda hoping that the cape would make Clyde really into Superman, and that he would fly "up, up , and away!" to rescue Fred, but maybe next time....

I thought that somehow the cape would at least make his eyes better so he didn't need the glasses.

Edit: I also think it is funny that his character made more sense in this movie than his character in Superman returns.

THIS. I totally agree.

I actually liked Clyde even when he was plotting against Santa, so to me that scene was more about Santa being able to see the good in a person who only caused harm to him before. I think it's great that Clyde didn't fly, this movie is not intended to be a fairy tail. I also like the fact Fred was able to travel to North Pole using usual means.

I think Kevin Spacey outacted everyone else in this movie. Maybe I was expecting to much from Giamatti.

Yes--I completely agree with you about that, OP.
