I didn't understand the point of her not being an elf. Actually the first time we saw her, I thought that she was going to be Fred's new love interest.

She was a human right?

Well I think there should have been a story of how Santa hired her. I suspect that he slid down her chimney and she opened his package. He decided to hire her as an intern. His wife is okay with it because it means she doesn't have to play with his candy cane.
