Was Fred the weak link in this film to anyone else?

I am not a Vince hater or anything, in fact I generally think he is very funny, but his persona in this, I was jut like what the heck were they thinking?

All that "fast talk" he does and just all his lying and what, what was I supposed to like about him? Many films start off making someone "bad" and then they change, but he was just irritating, and most of the time he was lying for no real reason. There are a few moments where he actually acts like a half way normal person that are pretty good but then he just next sentence goes back to that annoying guy.

Why did they write him like that? Pretty much all the rest of the film was done very well, I really feel like that character kept this from being a real classic.
