Actually these movies are very close to the 60's Stan Lee FF in tone. I know they screw with some origins and characters but the tone is very much there. The comics used to be light and have a lot of humor, more so than presently anyways. They also had a great cast involved. Maybe the problem is that the 60's tone is just too out of date for modern audiences.

I disagree, if there is a franchise that definitely needs rebooting it is this one.
The way they messed up Galactus alone is enough to warrant a reboot.
From the comics and the cartoons, I do understand that the Fantastic Four were always open about their superhero identities. However, from those, they were not these big celebrities getting all this public attention.
They led generally normal lives where they were mostly focused on solving the problem at hand and they simply took themselves more seriously than the jokers we saw in the movie.
I don' think there should be a FF reboot either. I really enjoyed the films, plus it's too early IMO.
shareNot too early at all,we haven't seen an FF film since 2007 by the time this one comes out people will forget the other ones if it's good. FF deserves better than these garbage movies no doubt.

But, Silver Surfer movie isn't until 2012. This is giving me the impressions that the SS's movie will be a setup for the F4 reboot.
That's just a theory.

My god, just finished watching this movie for the first time, and I wish I could have those 2 hours of my life back...
Why do movie studios insist on messing with the comic's original stories and just making up whatever they feel like? If they could not afford to do galactus right, then why even put him in the movie at all?
Just like they messed up deadpool in the wolverine movie...I mean, hey. These comics have been telling stories for almost 100 years now. If it ain't broke, then why try to make it better? You are just going to piss off the hardcore fan base in favor of the general public who may not even like the movie anyway...
So, are you down with the reboot? It may be a compensation for those 2 hours you've lost.

I'm fine with a reboot. Sadly, these movies dragged the FF and Silver Surfer (a personal favorite) through the mud. I'm viewing this as a "well, it can't get any worse" situation. In reality, of course the reboot could be worse but at this point I'm all for rolling the dice on the off-chance that it turns out fantastic.
Personally, I hope that the Silver Surfer movie is also treated as a reboot (in the sense that it ignores the existence of these films). I've said it before and I'll say it again: Silver Surfer's origin is interesting and compelling. It deserves to be done better.
I think the idea of a reboot is ridiculous, regardless of the time (which I happen to agree is waaaay too soon, anyway, and I don't give a good GD if that somehow offends anyone's overly dainty sensibilities). These movies were actually pretty good, and I'd like to see them continue.
Do they take liberties with the comic material? Sure. You bet. And many times, even most of the time, that ends up being a major mistake that ruins a film. However, the liberties taken with FF so far have been understandable and, in my opinion, minor. Honestly, I'd really rather have a massive energy cloud representing Galactus than a thousand foot tall, square-jawed dude in a silly purple tunic floating in space. You wanna see an audience crack up and laugh their guts out during a supposedly "deadly serious" scene, you just try that concept on for size.
There are just some things that don't translate from a four-color page to the real world as depicted on-screen without either looking idiotic or simply making no sense. Costumes are a good example. In most cases, when you try to make the costume look exactly like the comic, the actors involved look moronic, and can't be taken seriously. So what do they do? They make an outfit that's functional and doesn't look like a drag queen on prom night and it usually works. Same goes for origin stories. Many "superhero" origins are dumb as hell.
I'm particularly fond of an early episode of Family Guy that made fun of this, where the family gets doused in radioactive sludge and gets superpowers. Mayor West, trying to get powers, too, rushes out and wallows in a puddle of radioactive waste. In the next scene he's lying in a hospital with radiation poisoning and the doctor looking at him saying, "What were you thinking?"
It's not a bad thing when a modern movie adds a little something to make the old, silly origin more believable. You got caught in a nuclear explosion? Well maybe this little injection of special serum you got last week from a secret government lab is why the blast didn't kill you and you instead ended up with superpowers! You get the idea.
Not all change is bad, especially if it makes sense (nobody complained about Spidey's web-shooters being dropped for the movies), but changing out all the actors and rebooting things every ten minutes isn't necessary. Heh, it's going to be especially problematic for Marvel and the movie makes once they've got their on-screen "Marvel Universe" all ramped up after Avengers hits the screen. Not gonna make a lot of sense if they start rebooting stuff in a shared universe of films.
When you people say reboot, does that mean yet another origins movie? In that case... NO REBOOTS!
Otherwise, they can do whatever they want, as long as I'm entertained.

The FF movies weren't the best but then again FF weren't the best comics either. They were only interesting when it involved other superheros such as Spiderman or the Hulk.
shareTim Story was wrong for the material nuff said, and while it is getting reboot already like alot thats on Marvel entertainment's movie plate like; Spider-Man, X-Men (First Class) and others i reckon Fantastic Four should be on that plate too for many reasons. Like many, i really miss that 2006 animated series which only had like 26 episodes. 13 episodes a season or so. Cos they managed to Do FF properly and it was fresh and exciting and would've led to many more story re-iterations from previous FF toons. alas it wasn't picked up for a third season. And the films series suffered around the same time. Sure hollywood make these big blockbuster films upon one summer, but who actually remembers them anyhow a few years down the road? The DC movies became classics, Christopher Reeve's first 2 Superman movies, Tim Burton's Batman with Michael Keaton, Chris Nolan's Batman movies with Christian Bale, Watchmen etc.Dude, do not mistake a Marvel movie for a movie by another studio which happeneds to be based on a licensed Marvel characther.
Marvel's got the X-Men films by Bryan Singer, Blade by Stephen Norrington and its sequel by Guillermo del Toro (Blade 2), Spider-Man by Sam Raimi and recently Iron-Man films by Jon Favreau added to the mix. Everything else out of marvel either fails badly at the box office or the third act films mis-fired and bombed cos they were terrible anyhow going in. This is the trouble with Marvel films, the DC ones aren't always prefect themselves too, but i've often said Marvel keeps trucking their films out like this and they'll overstuff the genre with too many wannabe superhero franchises they are just spawned off cos they want a quick hit without any substance in them.
Becuase Fox doesn't want to loose the rights, so they're rebooting it so the rights be kept. Simple logic. Best thing you can do is NOT pay to see it when it gets made, though one can hope it sincerely does not.
