"The studio has tossed out writer/director Tim Story..."
Tim Story directed, he did not write. This makes me less confident of the accuracy of the story.
"The "official" word is that the studio wanted to get more gritty and serious, more in line with The X-men movies and Wolverine, but several insiders claim that the studio wanted to rein in the excessive production costs and salary demands— the first movie's budget was $100 million and the second was $130 million."
If FOX is determined to make Fantastic Four movies for under $100 million, they will be bad. The Fantastic Four may be the wildest, most spectacular team in comics. Travel to other dimensions, through time, into space and so on is part of their appeal. And there are four heroes, you have to do the powers for all of them, and their base, vehicles, amazing inventions and devices. This costs money.
"The latest rumor is that Adrien Brody (Predators) and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors) are both reported to be under consideration to play the part of Reed Richards, the leader of the Fantastic Four, who was previously portrayed by Ioan Gruffudd in the first two movies. Don't get me wrong, both are fine actors, but in my mind they don't really look the part, and I just don't see them playing the world's most brilliant scientist."
I agree with that. Adrien (expletive deleted) Brody as Mister Fantastic? Noo!!! What's the point, to save on special effects by hiring someone whose nose is permanently stretched anyway? I hated him in King Kong (2005), where it was easier to figure out why Ann Darrow loved King than to see what she saw in Jack Driscoll. And Chris Wilton from Match Point (2005) as Mister Fantastic? No.
"From a business standpoint though if they're smart they'll delay the release until either August or December of 2012 or even summer 2013 because 2012 is filled with huge tentpoles. "
FOX is excessively vindictive. There was no reason X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) had to clash with Superman Returns (2006) except malice. So I am not counting on FOX to prioritize business common sense.
