Fantastic Four reboot set for Summer 2012 and more info

Thoughts? From a business standpoint though if they're smart they'll delay the release until either August or December of 2012 or even summer 2013 because 2012 is filled with huge tentpoles.

"The studio has tossed out writer/director Tim Story..."

Tim Story directed, he did not write. This makes me less confident of the accuracy of the story.

"The "official" word is that the studio wanted to get more gritty and serious, more in line with The X-men movies and Wolverine, but several insiders claim that the studio wanted to rein in the excessive production costs and salary demands— the first movie's budget was $100 million and the second was $130 million."

If FOX is determined to make Fantastic Four movies for under $100 million, they will be bad. The Fantastic Four may be the wildest, most spectacular team in comics. Travel to other dimensions, through time, into space and so on is part of their appeal. And there are four heroes, you have to do the powers for all of them, and their base, vehicles, amazing inventions and devices. This costs money.

"The latest rumor is that Adrien Brody (Predators) and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors) are both reported to be under consideration to play the part of Reed Richards, the leader of the Fantastic Four, who was previously portrayed by Ioan Gruffudd in the first two movies. Don't get me wrong, both are fine actors, but in my mind they don't really look the part, and I just don't see them playing the world's most brilliant scientist."

I agree with that. Adrien (expletive deleted) Brody as Mister Fantastic? Noo!!! What's the point, to save on special effects by hiring someone whose nose is permanently stretched anyway? I hated him in King Kong (2005), where it was easier to figure out why Ann Darrow loved King than to see what she saw in Jack Driscoll. And Chris Wilton from Match Point (2005) as Mister Fantastic? No.

"From a business standpoint though if they're smart they'll delay the release until either August or December of 2012 or even summer 2013 because 2012 is filled with huge tentpoles. "

FOX is excessively vindictive. There was no reason X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) had to clash with Superman Returns (2006) except malice. So I am not counting on FOX to prioritize business common sense.

If Fox were smart they would hand the rights back to Marvel in exchange for a distribution deal, like Universal did with Hulk.

Instead, they will carry on sodomizing the characthers, devalue the brand and deny us seeing both the Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer and Galactus in the Marvel cinematical universe, all in the name of short term fiscal quarter results - long term value for the shareholders be damned.

This is not smart.

I think Universal did the right thing. First they gave Ang Lee his shot, which was a reasonable thing to try, after Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000). When that didn't work they got out of the way.

Same with FOX screwing up Firefly and Universal giving Jos his chance to fix the story with Serenity (2005). Universal were the good guys but they did not get the reward. Serenity (2005) was a great movie that nobody saw, and its main effect was that lots of Browncoats said, "yes, cool, movie, but first you have to buy and see the Firefly TV series on DVD, so it was FOX that reaped the windfall.

FOX could do well here too, making money by burning up the goodwill in these beloved characters.

I liked the Fantastic 4 and am disapointed they aren't continuing with the them. It will be wierd with them having different people playing the parts.

But the story will contine Sue and Reed will be maried and stuff, but look totally different (that's Stupid)?

the first was ok, but not the second one. They should return the rights to Marvel

comics fans will never like a movie adaptation, even if they use an existing story, stay faithful to the costumes and powers, it won't fit for some obscure reason ... the reason is a comics is read in 10 minutes, has its own way of conveying a story, has fixed images, no sound, absolutely irrealistic rendering of human beings that cannot look like any living actor, a very special pace (putting some elements of a continuing story but still with a main story in a 24 page book, some elements of background for some characters, evolution of powers, evolution of some baddies psychology ...) so it's just another way to tell a story, it's not a comics, it's a movie so it'll never fit

And yet comic book fans often do like movies.
