TWO THINGS that I will NEVER buy!! SPOILERS

1) How is Silver Surfer able to (seemingly) destroy Galactus in the first place? He was only bestowed a small portion of the Power Cosmic from Galactus himself so would'nt that make it more prominent in him!? Even so why would you risk putting the power in the surfboard when something or someone (just like in the film) can potentially steal the board and use it for their own gain?

2) How did Surfer know that would even work? Was he risking it or was he 100% sure it would again (seemingly) destroy Galactus? If so why didn't he try it before? So many other planets died in the process so why Earth in particular? Did just seeing Sue reminding him of his old love really convince him alone to save the entire planet? Superficial much!?

He didn't destroy him. He used up a great deal of his power to stop him from consuming the Earth, and force him away. Galactus wont be destroyed by his own Herald.

And he didn't know it would work.
He was giving it his all, and taking a risk.
In the comics, Silver Surfer IS reminded of his past life, of which he only has broken memories of, due to Galactus recreating and brainwashing him as a Herald.
And it was more that he remembered his time BEFORE serving Galactus, and was compelled to save the planet because of his newfound relationship with Sue, and his observations of the planet.

At least, that's how I interpreted the movie.
