we see in the scene where Human Torch is chasing Silver Surfer, he says "ok let's end this" and goes fast enough to reach him.
So he could actually fly faster than SS or was SS just playing with him? What do you think?

While not addressed in the movie, the Silver Surfer character in the comic can and does travel faster than the speed of light.

sharetechnically SS is faster in space but accelerating to light year speed would require an insane distance and it isn't possible in an atmosphere, so SS and HT would be about the same in atmosphere
shareNot really. SS can reach light speed in an instant. He can travel substantially faster but THAT would take significantly more time and distance. In earths atmosphere HT can only move up to a certain speed. SS has no known limit to his speed in any atmosphere.
shareIs Silver Surfer invincible? If not then Im going to assume that hitting a toothpick at the speed of light would go right through him. So probably wouldnt be able to SAFELY travel at light speed in our atmosphere. Unless he has some kind of particle shield power, in which case game on.

He isn't invincible. But considering that he can travel at speeds that dwarf light speed in outer space unaided, I'd say he wouldn't worry too much about a toothpick. Not to mention that he has Cosmic Awareness as well as the ability to use the Power Cosmic according to his will. He could engulf himself in a shield to block an object, or wrap himself within enough cosmic energy to immediately disintegrate an object, or use his energies on himself and absorb an object or phase right through it.

shareThe Silver Surfer seems to go at different speeds in atmosphere and out of atmosphere. Out of atmosphere he goes wildly faster than light. In atmosphere he doesn't exhibit such speed, and by pushing really hard Johnny can be faster than him.

shareSS was testing him out. SS possesses the Power Cosmic directly from Galactus. The FF were infected by radiation from the power cosmic. So basically they were imbued with a watered down version of power cosmic. SS probably recognized the power traces and was curious. Also considering he wasn't too happy to be tracked by Reed's device, it is safe to say he was sizing them up. When HT started getting serious is when he said "ok kid, let me show you who's boss here" and basically slapped him around...

JS can fly at supersonic speeds, which is faster than the speed of sound.
Since the speed of light is faster than the speed of sound, SS is faster hands down.
This movie had to limit The Silver Surfer powers so the Fantastic Four would even have a chance. Him being captured was a crack of you know what. It would never happen. Silver Surfer is just too powerful for technically any Marvel superhero to deal with....
shareSilver Surfer is one of the most powerful beings in Marvel Universe. The movie tuned down most of his powers, so we could see a 100 minute excuse of film with Silver Surfer. He is out of any of the FF's league, altogether.
