Were there any surprises?
In the comics, Mr Fantastic has always been a boring, uninteresting genius who can't seem to get over himself or ever feel like a real, human character while the Invisible Woman basically has the power to hide whenever a fight breaks out. Then everyone tries to figure out why they stay together as they both feel unimportant, not only in life, but toward each other. Then Doctor Doom spends his whole life blaming Reed for something he did to himself. The guy's supposed to be a genius, yet he can never seem to realize that one guy with zero powers isn't going to win in a fight against a squad of four people with powers.
Then, the Human Torch and The Thing are two pretty cool looking characters, with exciting powers, and kind of an entertaining relationship. The whole bunch is finally pitted against and subsequently allied with maybe Marvel's most interesting character.
Despite the contrast, Marvel continues to favor the least interesting characters in the bunch as the leads for every plot line, leaving us constantly waiting for a fight so we can finally enjoy the two interesting members of the book.
So was anyone surprised when the movie was characterized with a somewhat dull story that falls flat until The Thing and the Human Torch get to jump into action, particularly against the Silver Surfer?
