She would have had to cross the highway to get back to the gas station

A stupid continuity point, but just thinking about it, she would have had to cross a road at some point to get back to the gas station just for positioning reasons.

ie the gas station is on the left of the highway (when driving away from the gas station) and they turn off the highway to the right of it.

Not really that important but sort of strange.

But I'm still not 100% clear on the whole movie!!

Yes, I agree. It doesn't show how long Girl has followed Boy to the Gas station and which direction he took.

We see in the film that she went up a hill on the right side, through the ruined house and out of the back, turned right, and that's when it got fuzzy. The time, direction and distance.

We could speculate that they crossed another snow-covered road (the highway itself?), up a snow bank, turned left, walked on a bit, up another hill until she got the back of the gas station. Unlikely, but why not? :D
