Pretty good... (spoilers, obviously)

I was channel surfing out of boredom tonight and I saw this and decided it looked okay. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I do understand, however, why people wouldn't like it, but I don't mind the cliche storyline so much. For me, I think it's not so much the basic story itself that can be irritating as it is the choppy script/certain scenes. It's a little hard to explain--I LIKED the dialogue and movie as a whole, but there were also parts that made me go, "Eh?" All the same, I really enjoyed Ashton Holmes in this. I hope he can catch a break and make it into some bigger movies. This is the first I've ever heard of him. He almost reminds me of Kris Lemche (don't ask me why, though). Emily Blunt was really good too. They were both very ordinary, but likeable. The one thing I noticed that always annoys me about ghost movies is the reluctance of the characters to believe that, YES, it is in fact ghosts killing people off! I liked that they both seemed to just accept that is was something paranormal attacking them and moved on. I also enjoyed the lack of a "hey, let's get a group of kids, stick 'em someplace scary, watch them have sex, and then see who can come up with the most inventive way to maim each character!" plot. The concentration on the suspense, the interaction between the Girl and the Guy, and the actual "ghost story" was refreshing to me. The ending was sweet (obviously, not the guy dying, just his ghost coming back to help her). I liked the little quote unquote love story they tossed in. That always lessens the... scariness, if you will, of a horror movie for me. Humanizes it a little more, I guess.

I also LOVED the setting, as most everyone else has mentioned. Something about a completely isolated stretch of road steeped in snow gives me chills. The silence and utter vulnerability of being out in the open like that makes me never want to drive home by myself at night again. Freezing to death is just a creepy way to bite it. You wouldn't even know it's happening, as the Girl says. You just fall asleep.

I actually wouldn't mind reading this as a book, as long as it was well-written. More scenes with the Girl and the Guy.

Anyway, just wanted to throw in my two cents! Thank for reading if you did.
