As an American, I had no idea she was British! I didn't recognize her until I read up on her and saw what other films she'd been in - and THEN I recognized her. Didn't notice any accent at all! Well done!
I agree I was surprised when I found out she was british. I think a lot of british actors have pulled playing americans, Damian Lewis comes to mind from band of brothers and now NBC's life. Idris Elba in the wire and other various films as well.
She's got a great North American accent. I knew she's British, but her accent in the movie made me forget.
There are a lot of other great attempts though, like Sophia Myles from Moonlight. Some big name British actresses actually can't (IMO) pull off an accent as flawless as hers, and most male British actors just outright don't even care enough to bother to try :p (Well, Christian Bale's flawless as well.) Granted, most American actor's probably won't try British accent either. They'd just get written in as someone actually from America (how lame).
Wow , i never even thought of that... She did an excellent job with the accent, i actually thought she was from Michigan or something...but in all fairness, she is British or born in the UK, she has probably lived in LA for most of her life, just like all egotistical fame hungry actors and actresses who are desperate to see themselves on film, anyone who would be in this ridiculously horrible movie obviously is desperate, its quite *beep* her acting was ok, but just such a dumb movie, i thought it was going to be good.... Dead End is MUCH better.....
In this film I'd say she used a generic American (or "Newscaster English") accent and it's pretty solid for the most part. (I'm from southern Ohio and basically sound like that too.)
To me she sounds sort of like someone from urban Indiana, DC, maybe California or New York (state), etc - pretty flat American plus a little hardness like she grew up in a good-sized city, probably smokes and is pretty intelligent (her words sound deliberate, not too soft or lazy.)
that's not very nice! Even if she's lived in LA a while it doesn't mean she's money hungry or egotistical or by the way that it's easy to develop an accent just because you live somewhere. I've lived in Ireland over 5 years now and I still haven't caught an Irish accent. Second, she was mainly in British movies until she did The Devil Wears Prada which made her famous. I'm guessing she probably lived in England until then. I read something about how she lived in Vancouver, Canada until 2008 (don't know since when but it means she wasn't living in LA until 2008 at least). And there's a reason actors and actresses tend to live in LA, you know. That's where the movie industry is. I'm guessing you live close enough to your job, am I wrong? At worst you may commute from what? 2 hours away? And you expect her to commute from England? I liked Wind Chill. It's a nice little horror film. Not a blockbuster, not a cult movie, but a nice enjoyable little horror movie. And I've liked Emily Blunt ever since I saw her in that (I actually only saw the Devil Wears Prada afterwards).
Hahah, ya you are right, i was probably just frustrated cuz i was disappointed with the movie and ranted on here ,hahaha, didnt mean to be a troll. sorry.
I need to constantly post on IMDB/yes i am a loser.
Really? I could hear her British accent all over the place. Maybe it's because I already knew she was British, but scenes when she was screaming/yelling you could definitely hear her real voice come out. Watch it again, especially the scene where she's yelling at the ghost police officer.
love her accent too. just sick of her constant panting though. "I need more sex, OK? Before I die I wanna taste everyone in the world." -Angelina HOlie
