My Quick Theory W/ Some Questions.

I just saw the movie for the first time and I've been reading on IMDB to see what people thought about it.

I do believe that everyone was a ghost except for Emily Blunt. Here are my reasons why I believe that:
1. "Guy" said he made this drive over a million times. Supporting the reoccuring events theory.
2. "Guy" says near the ending, "I was eventually going to tell you."
3. The tow-truck driver's truck at the end of the movie when Emily Blunt is led to the gas station is there. Suggesting that the tow-truck driver reoccurence had already started over [He restarted 12 hours before his own death which was by the cop].
4. "Girl" is shocked to hear that he knows that she wears glasses even though she only wears them in her dorm. Maybe he has the usual ghost like abilities and was actually haunting her to get to know her. Sounds creepy! And that also could be a reason why he he said, "I would've done it differently. I would've just walked right up to." Possibly indicating that he was infatuated w/ "Girl" when he was alive and all he wanted to do was get to know her. So he ghost-stalked. :/
5. Another thing I just thought about was the fact he knew what her "last meal" would be. He brought everything she liked. How would someone know ALL about that just from stalking. It's almost as if he heard every conversation of hers.
6. At first, I was thinking he wasn't dead b/c he did leave the note up at school offering a ride and then you see him in class (which I think is the ghost version of him) with "Girl" when she's texting her friend that she's going to take the bus to get home. Maybe he put car offering up on the bulletin b/c he knew that she was going to check them out. "Guy" mentions later that they've taken a class together, he says last year or semester. Indicating, he may have been dead a year and he's been reliving his last 12-24 hours since his death. Some what of a Groundhog's Day effect, learning more and more about "Girl" until he is able to spend his last day with her.

But I still have a couple questions with that (my) theory.

Question 1: If he's been dead that whole time, did a ghost really drive her to Highway 606 so that she could suffer for 12 hours? And why would he do that if he liked her?

Question 2: If the tow-truck driver is a ghost, then who is the coroner taking away? I think it either has to be "Guy" which would confirm that he wasn't a ghost the whole time or the tow-truck driver wasn't a ghost the whole time. So, obviously I would have to switch my theory around.

Question 3: I dont' get the whole scene in the gas station bathroom either. I'm almost feel as if I missed something visually. That scene also had me question why the tow-truck driver looks at her so weird when she returns from the bathroom. But maybe that whole scene was a red herring.

If anyone has any thoughts or would like to add (or disregard) my theory, it is welcome. I just want to figure this out! And yes, I know its about a character going through 180* change about who she is and how her feelings have changed for "Guy." But, I want to figure out reasoning for the ghost-story.

Thanks and sorry for the long post! :)

I also thought "Guy" was a ghost but not of the malevolent type like the bad cop.

I think the guy was alive the whole time, until we saw him die. Because if he had been dead the whole time, wouldn't we have seen him come across the scene earlier like we saw all of the other dead people? For example, we saw the policeman several times, and the priests several times.... wouldn't we have seen the guy several times as well?

And, I believe the guy said that he made this trip a million times because he didn't want the girl to know he'd never made the trip before. At this point, he was still pretending he was driving to his home too. If you notice, he slips the gas station guy a look like, "Dude, please don't blow my cover".

I also think the guy knew everything about the girl because he really liked her and was kinda stalkerish. He researched everything about her, maybe even stopped in at her dorm and watched her in the hallways. And he admitted he asked around about where she lived and peered over her shoulder at the text message about taking the Greyhound home.

And guy says, at the end, "I was eventually going to tell you" because he is repeating what he said when he was alive. Although I'm not sure why he was able to repeat what he was talking about out of sequence with the actual conversation and why everyone else was reliving exactly what happened.

And if I'm totally wrong, and he was a ghost the whole time (which I really don't think he was supposed to be) - well, he saved her in the end. Why would he take her on that trip if he was just going to save her by leading her to safety in the long run. That wouldn't make sense.

Just my thoughts.

P.S. I have no idea about that bathroom scene either. I think everyone is pretty stumped on that one! I guess it was just supposed to give us an eery feeling, but it didn't make any sense at all. I mean, the ghosts in this movie reacted to people so if they were all ghosts they would have done something. Wouldn't they???? And if they were people - well, it's messed up, because the people directly next to the bathroom would have definitely heard her.

Was Bill Murray's character dead in Groundhog Day (1993)?

NO

He was reliving the same day over & over & over...

In Wind Chill I don't believe they are dead throughout the movie, but in reality they are just reliving the events of the past hours over & over & over... with strange yet revealing flashbacks and all.

Then again I merely graduated High School and went to work. No College, so does my opinion matter?

If we all are here to help others , then what exactly are others here for?

Probably not.

1. "Guy" said he made this drive over a million times. Supporting the reoccuring events theory.

He was lying so she'd trust him a little
2. "Guy" says near the ending, "I was eventually going to tell you."

Meaning that he would have eventually otld her the truth, i.e. he is not from Delaware, wasn't going that way, etc. Confessing his scam, so to speak.

3. The tow-truck driver's truck at the end of the movie when Emily Blunt is led to the gas station is there. Suggesting that the tow-truck driver reoccurence had already started over [He restarted 12 hours before his own death which was by the cop].

Or maybe, since it was winter, he was making regualr rounds in the plow truck to keep roads clear.

Of course she was shocked. Here's a guy she doesn't know that knows so much about here. He's been stalking her because he has a "crush". His "I would've done it differently" just means he's regretting the sham he used to get her alone with him.

5. Another thing I just thought about was the fact he knew what her "last meal" would be. He brought everything she liked. How would someone know ALL about that just from stalking. It's almost as if he heard every conversation of hers.

He didn't know what her last meal would be, just what her favorites are. I think most people would choose to eat their favorites as their last meal.

6. At first, I was thinking he wasn't dead b/c he did leave the note up at school offering a ride and then you see him in class (which I think is the ghost version of him) with "Girl" when she's texting her friend that she's going to take the bus to get home. Some what of a Groundhog's Day effect, learning more and more about "Girl" until he is able to spend his last day with her.

He may have been referring to a class they had previously shared while intentionally leaving out the one they're in together now in order to not be so stalkery looking to her. He put the note up because he knew she'd check there and was going home to Delaware.

I don't believe he was dead until towards the end. Nothing ever even made me consider it.

He wasn't dead until she went to do the phone thing. Ghosts don't bleed. And when they kissed she didn't freeze or anything like when she touched the priest. After he died I think his ghost was trying to show her to safety.

I think the bathroom scene was just to set up the creepy feel of the town. Her being locked in the bathroom made her feel uneasy about "guy" which added to the suspense. We weren't sure if he really was good or bad at that point. It added to the creepy stalker thing "guy" had going on.

You're theory makes no sense, if everyone is a ghost apart from the main girl then the guy who's driving her is in this ETERNAL RECURRANCE thing... How does he break away from that to stalk her?

This movie was pointless.

I just read everyones post but didn't read anything about the possibility of reincarnation. When they are driving in the car talking about Philosophy they discuss the difference in REINCARNATION AND ETERNAL REOCCURANCE, so it stands to reason that perhaps he was the reincarnation of someone who knew her previously, perhaps the boyfriend she talks about

OR

He might know about the area from his Philosophy classes and while thinking that she too is a Philosphy major that once they get to their romantic destination she might also enjoy what he is thinking might just be a time when they can discuss but not really live through all the events that have happened there.

The writers, I am sure had a better idea of what the real back story should be but like any movie there is some aspects lost in translation from paper to the screen. I did find it interesting to read the thoughts people actually put into the movie, until I read everything I didnt really care for the movie. Now that I have read all the ideas and input here I think I will watch it again to pay closer attention with regards to all your ideas.

i don't think there is actually any clear cut answers, so that there are different possabilities to choose from, but i kinda like the idea that he died on his was to the gas station...and was a ghost from that point on.

although i don't even believe in that sort of thing...lol
