Crouch End

It didn't look much like the real Crouch End...

What do you mean? It's the most realistic portrayal of London and its people since Garfield 2.

There are really only 2 types of people here in England: affable but easily shocked old bluffers in tweed, and friendly sooty cockerny taxi-drivers with fish & chips and ale on their breath.

"Cor Blimey! Ya don't wanna be going down that ther Crouch End, lord-luv-a-duck!"

The fact is that Crouch End isn't that rather dull district of North London with no decent pubs just down the road from Ally Pally that you might think it is. Tis a mysterious gateway place to another world I tell ye! Ask any London cabbie.

Crouch End is a brilliant story and worthy of association with Lovecraft.

It doesn't look like they're being faithful.

"Frankenstein was creator, not the monster.A common misconception held by all truly stupid people"

It's a gateway to Wood Green, which is a mysterious other world.

What a load of poo!

First of all thats one of the worst portrayals of London/Britain I've seen in a while!

The clichéed British taxi driver/old person is one thing, but you would think that the producers would know it takes slightly more than plonking a red phone box and post box in the road to make somewhere look like England (or more specifically London)

The big houses, the style of architecture, the lay out of the roads, the lamp posts... You might say I'm being picky, but I am sorry it did not look anything like England and certainly not like London - oh and there are no computers or anything in police stations here either...

Didn't help that the story was boring and the main characters completely annoying!

I believe it said at the end it was filmed in Australia, I agree it didn't look much like London at any point.

The short story is one of King's best, the most genuinely creepy thing I've read. This TV adaptation was horribly butchered though. A straight adaptation of the book would have been far better. I pity anyone who saw this before reading the story, as they'll be thinking of the terrible actors, cheesy lines and feeble effects shown in this travesty.

The occasional moment when part of the story made it to the screen relatively unscathed was still enjoyable though... although these were few and far between... Lonnie losing his jacket was fairly faithful... and... erm... the white train going over the underpass? That's about all.

I'm here in Australia and have just watched it. Location wise it is filmed in either Port Melbourne or WIlliamstown. The hotel in 'London' they were supposed to be staying at was actually Victoria's Parliament House and if you look closely as they are eating lunch you can spy a tram trundling past in the background.

My wife and I got quite a giggle out of it.
