Adaptions from N+D
I've been watching N&D on Five US and have only caught 4 of them. Not sure how many more they have left to show as i know some have already been aired.
End Of The Whole Mess
I did find this quite moving and sad but too quick in the middle.
Fifth Quarter
Pretty atmospheric and tense throughout. Felt sorry for him at the end.
Autopsy Room 4
When i first read this story it was very spooky and claustraphobic and well written. The screen adaption just didn't work. They shouldn't have adapted this as the viewer can't fully appreciate it. Badly acted as well.
They've got One Hell Of A Band
Why oh why did they adapt this. I don't remember a huge amount about the story but this was the most boring thing i have ever watched. It was just so slow to begin with and nothing gripping or exciting happened and the ending was dull.
I just don't feel like watching anymore as they've obviously worked on a really low budget with some good actors but not properly researched what would be good on screen and what would not.
Also, AR4 & Hell Of A Band should not have been adapted. There are so many of SK's short stories that would work on screen and a lot that don't. Some are that fairly boring also. Obviously he wasn't too bothered about many of them but just wanted to get them written down. I feel sorry for SK as he has a remarkable talent and has written some amazing books and short stories. When people come along and rip them apart like this it's embarrassing for him. They should have learnt by now as some of his older work back in the 80's were also ruined.
What we need is a team of SK's regular screenplay writers and directors to come along and research more of his short stories and grab the best ones that they can adapt and bring to the screen so we can be gripped and amazed. My girfriend isn't a huge SK fan but has read some of his best works and loved them. Quite embarrassing for her and me to see his talent made a mockery of here.
I'm very much looking forward to Frank Darabont's adaption of "The Mist" when it comes out. He did such a great job on The Shawshank Redemption & The Green Mile and even though he's side-stepping to more shocks and horror i'm still eager to see it. I reckon he'll do a great job.
