Can someone explain 'Hell of a band' for me?

There was a song in the 70's called rock and roll heaven and in the song was the line ' if you belive in forever then life is just a one night stand, and if there is a rock and roll heaven then you know they have a hell of a band.

That's a great line, but I think the title's to do with the fact that the place that calls itself "Rock and Roll Heaven" turns out to be the opposite and all those undead performers are a hellish band indeed.
