Road Virus episode

I haven't seen this in a while, but remember thinking that it didn't seem to end the same way as in the book. Can someone elaborate on the proper ending, or am I imagining things? I would just check the book but it's packed away right now.

Hi

I haven't read the book, but I watched this episode the other day - the ending confused me though! Basically the kid was in his house, going slowly after him, Kinnell fell down the stairs by the painting, looked at the painting and saw it had changed and showed blood on the car seat, so he realised (the kid Bobby was at the door watching him at this point) he needed to go in the car? to die?

Is this similar to the book

In the book, Richard knows that the Virus was going to get him so he hides in his bathroom and watches the picture slowly change until it is right outside his bathroom door trying to get in.

not even close...

in the story, Richard thinks he is safe after throwing the painting in his fire and then falls asleep during a shower. When he wakes up, the painting is back on his wall and reveals, in addition to the footsteps inside his house, that the young man from the painting is approaching. Richard then slips as he tries to run, and sees the painting once more from the ground. It shows the car outside his house with a mess of blood in the front passenger seat. He deduces that the blood is his ("I think I'm going outside" he says, or something to that effect).

Actually the post you're replying to is correct since he specifically said the short story version and not the tv version.

The only difference between religion and superstition is the spelling.
