Why does the wife give him the damn book?

God, this movie was painfully bad. I kept waiting for it to turn a corner and get good, but it never did. One thing I don't understand, though, and it's really irritating me... Why in hell did his wife give him the book in the first place if she was trying to keep this all under wraps???

I don’t think she knew, when she gave him the book, that it was about him. I don’t think she made that connection until much later.

TreehuggerKyle is right. It was only a "coincidence" that she bought the book. But not really a coincidence though as like Jim Carrey's character said, "The book found her".
