Something doesn't add up (No pun intended)

Can someone please explain how Walter Sparrow doesn't seem to age? He murders his girlfriend; attempts suicide and recovers to full mental health (apart from the amnesia) in what appears to be a few years...
Also, why do the doctors not give him back his personal effects? Seems like an odd thing to do.
Any help would be appreciated.

It seemed like the murder took place in the early 90's - i think he mentions Waco in the book, but do you really age that much in 10 years?

reply

Yes, you do?

Aside from perhaps mid twenties to mid thirties any other jump of a decade would be fairly pronounced?

This is Jim Carrey in Liar Liar:

Liar Liar came out 10 years before the Number 23, yet he looks pretty much the same.

As for the personal effects, I think the Doctor who took the book stole them since the 23 obsession had just kicked in, so they didn't have them at the hospital at the time Walter left.

But this one's eating my popcorn!

You know, Jim Carrey was born with that exact facial features and it hasnt changed since. I should know because I was there when he was born (p/s: I'm a time traveller).
