Other stories about chracters obsessed to find the meaning of something

Do any of you know of any others? Every now and then there is a story involving a character who is obsessed to uncover the meaning behind something. I suppose this movie reminded me of Aronofsky's Pi in that regard. I assume there are other films like these out there, even if I cannot recall the names of any off the top of my head. However...

I once wrote a short story some time ago about a boy obsessed with the meaning behind a piece of symbolism in one of his favorite artist's works. I recently finished editing it and uploaded it for others to read.
