Nuff said. The imdb "6.2" rating is woefully generous.
This film is a joke.
if you're thinking about seeing this, maybe instead go watch a film that's a lot more intelligent, dramatic and well acted....like maybe "Snow Dogs" perhaps.
Or "Princess Diaries 2".
I bet both would be superior options to this inane garbage.
I like the idea that "this website isn't credible that gave the film this rating..." We all realize that Rotten Tomatoes isn't an opinion site, right? It compiles all of the credible critics reviews and even includes user reviews. It's not the opinion of Rotten Tomatoes that this movie is poorly executed, it's the opinion of a majority. Good God.
I know exactly how Rotten Tomatoes work. Critics give a review and RT takes it and consider it either "rotten" or "fresh". Rotten means a ZERO, Fresh means a HUNDRED, in their percentage system. They don't give a rating, they just approve or disapprove. An unusual, controversial and contrived movie that confuses the viewer and it's fairly executed, receives mostly disapproval and that means mostly "rotten" reviews. Doesn't mean people wanted to give the movie that really low score. Check the users score, it's not that low. For instance, there are actually movies with 0% in RT and in imdb they have 5/10 but that makes sense because the overall opinion is just not good. The Number 23 is not an horribly poorly made movie, is just a movie that doesn't please anyone.
Very often an enjoyable movie will receive a low score, yet if children were ranking the movie, it would be much higher. My concern when I take the Grandchildren to see a film is, "Do they enjoy it?" My ranking will often be based on that premise.
"A lot of people don't like it, therefore it sucks" is an awful argument for why people who like a film should exchange their own opinion, an opinion based on their personal likes and dislikes, for the popular opinion of others.
This thread should have been titled "Why movie viewers should be sheeple and mindlessly defer to majority opinion."
Oh my God JMFJJ88, I was thinking that this movie *might* be stretching to fit words, addresses and coincidences to add up to 23, but your post changed my mind.
Your quote "'This thread should have been titled "Why movie viewers should be sheeple and mindlessly defer to majority opinion"' contains 23 words. (albeit "sheeple" is not one.) I'm flabbergasted. Now, after this phenomenon I also believe in Yetis.
I'm back on board-"23" really DOES happen in real life. Thanks for changing my opinion.
