shareI think I know why.... except for the 23 valves (which I'm not sure about) Because the saxophone is one of the few instruments, that can portray a very wide variety of emotions. There aren't much instruments out there: for example, the fluit always sounds happy, a violin will always sound classy, drums sound savage and a hobo is always sad. (of course there are variations on these emotions, but deep down, a fluit can never be sad, a violin can never sound as savage as a drum can) ... The saxophone can be happy, sad, sexy, classy, silent and savage... Like a piano can. But piano's are usually big and stationary... And in the movie world, easily connected with great financial weath.
A saxophone is also not the hardest instrument to learn. The only thing you need is a sturdy lower lip and LONG pinky fingers. except it works with buttons connected to valves, it's not THAT different to play from the recorder. And we ALL know how to play the recorder.

Rob Lowe in St. Elmo's Fire. Also, didn't Lea Thompson play it in "All the Right Moves" or was that a different instrument?
