i am a big fan higurashi ....does erufen rito have equal amount of thrills

In my opinion it does although it is gorier and has a lot of nudity, while Higurashi is scarier, I rank them both as absolutely exceptional shows. I think it gets quite emotional and almost as scary. Definitely see it! Hope this helps

Oh and I should also note that there is a slight difference: This has occasional shock endings and does not change total tone with each episode intermittently. (Whereas Higurashi has dark episodes and lighter ones where no one dies, this does not have that tone).

I think Higurashi (which I am still in the middle of watching) messes with your mind a lot more - the non-linear story really keeps you confused, guessing, and not knowing what's going to happen next (heck, not even knowing what happened in the past, either). Elfen Lied's story is a lot more direct, and what I guess you might call its "big reveal" is telegraphed in advance (more than once). Its "thrills" are not at all in the same vein as Higurashi.

Although many people seem to cite these as similar animes (and I like both of them a lot), I think they provoke very different moods, IMHO. Higurashi has a lot of suspense/mystery/horror, whereas EL is more a mix of sci-fi/action with drama/romance. It includes some horror elements, but that is not its raison d'être.
