Pierce Brosnan's sons ?
Along the way a guy recognizes Brosnan's character from the war and mentions that his two sons were killed and that Brosnan had killed a hundred men. Was this ever mentioned again or did I just miss it?

No, it's just mentioned that one time. Also, the fact that he's a widower isn't mentioned at all but it's evident to sharp eyed viewers who see a wedding ring worn on the chain on his neck with his cross.
