I'm in the middle of watching Seraphim Falls, 45 minutes from the beginning and it is finally making sense and getting good. It is a gamble to start a movie without giving too many clues and this time it didn't work.
Pierce Brosnan however does a great job. It almost took me 30 minutes into the show to realize that was him playing the part of Gideon. He reminded me of a young James Coburn.
Wow, I totally disagree. I loved the fact that you are thrust into the conflict immediately without knowing anything about the details. It starts out simply as a story about a ruthless man in the wilderness being hunted by other ruthless men. You don't know why and it doesn't matter because Brosnan is too busy trying to figure out yet another way to outwit his pursuers and manage to stay alive in the unforgiving climate. When you finally learn why Neeson is so set on killing Brosnan, who the hero is and who the villain is have become ambiguous questions. Even better is the ending, where forgiveness and redemption enter this bleak world. It's damn near a perfect movie story. I was surprised that this film was so enjoyable and yet so overlooked. I had never heard of it until my husband brought it home and I hope it gathers more fans in its life on DVD.
I understand what you are saying. I do love movies that cause me to think. I just think they it took a little long to get to any answers. By the end of the last half hour of the show I was fully into it.
Now that I know more when I watch it from the beginning I will enjoy the beginning of the movie.
Thanks for leaving your remarks and have a happy christmas season.
i know what you mean about the begining. i saw the begining of the movie at the cinema and left because nothing was happening. I aint here to burn the movie because i havent seen all of it but that begining was brutally boring.
The long boring start you describe had me riveted from the opening shot! I love a film that doesn't spew exposition at you and It was a real treat to sit back and watch these great actors revealing the story without hardly saying a word! the whole time wondering in the back of your head whay the hell went on before to make them hunt him so relentlessly! I also loved the way you initially think Brosnan is the goodguy and Liam Neeson is the badguy which flips as you are watching it!
yeah and flips the other way around again at the end and gets kind of equal. The beginning for me was the best part. a great 45 minutes, really something that is needed more in this kind of movies.
Jake: She says he's pretty. Joey: Yeah, well, you make him ugly.
I loved the beginning of this movie. Like someone else was saying, you start thinking Neeson's character was the bad guy and then it flips on you about half way through the movie. I liked the part when Brosnan is in the horse and jumps out and Neeson uses his last bullet on the guy. Before he shot him, I was thinking what the hell was Neeson worried about that guy dying for? Nice touch
You've never seen a movie 'til you've seen it twice.
