That scene made me jump & not a lot of movies ever do that to me. The flick was a nice surprise overall, highly recommended; but man, after I saw Brosnan pull that ninja move outta that horse I knew I had to own this movie.
I learned a very valuable lesson because of that scene. Never watch a movie you never seen before while driving. It's not good to have a dvd player in your vehicle, period, but that scene caught me so off guard that i damn near hit somebody. I had to watch that scene a few times after that to let it sink in that he just came out of a freakin horse
You had to watch that scene to learn that "valuable lesson"? Didn't logic or common sense ever occur to you? and the fact that you actually think it's ok as long as you've seen it before.. wow, the mind truly boggles.
Please tell me you don't live in the UK. To think that some people are watching movies while driving scares the bejeesus out of me.
I hate to sound naive and stupid, but where was this filmed? The horse scenes were so realistic I was actually a little concerned for the animals. I know the US has strict humane laws, but other countries do not. Does anyone know where this was filmed?
I don't think so, but I once wrote a screenplay about a man who walked all over the country wearing a horse carcass and tricking people into thinking he was a horse. (By the end of the movie the carcass was going to be bloated and weeping and falling apart, it was going to be hilarious.) Never got filmed though for various reasons (I couldn't find any cameramen, and I'm not allowed to operate heavy camera equipment myself with my medication).
Oddly, I was half-expecting him to pull this trick when he found the dead bear.
When he didn't, and DID do it w/ the horse, I was as shocked as anyone.
A bit of foreshadowing I suppose.

PS: To the guy who drives while watching DVD's; what State / Province please? I'll want to stay out of there. And I thought cell-phones were hazardous to drivers,....
As soon as the horse fell over for some reason my first thought was "He's going to gut the horse and hide in its body", but honestly I didn't exepect it to really happen.
the Horse corpse scene made this film worth watching for that alone(totally cought me by surprise- and very well done). And the chase scene at the begining of the movie when they are in the snow and along those white water rapids..that was good too(I actually felt cold just watching it)
Well, in "The Empire Strikes Back" Luke Sywalker - while on the ice planet at the begining of the film - cuts open the belly of some camel like animal and stays warm by sleeping in it's guts.
That scene didn't make me jump because I knew what was going to happen they came up to the dead horse with its insides out and your man no where to be seen anyone with half a brain would know that he was supposed to be hiding inside the dead horse.
Yeah, if you watch that scene a second time, it should be pretty obvious that it wasn't written well. How stupid would Carver have to be to NOT realize he must be in there??
I swear, it's like sometimes directors forget who their characters are.
He who is tired of "Weird Al"... is tired of life.
