Just watched and...

-Okay, so I just finished watching the unrated DVD version of ROGUE a couple minutes ago and I did enjoy it and I was on the edge of my seat almost the whole time after they crash on the island. The tension was awesome in this film definitely, at times my jaw dropped and I was just shocked. It was not predictable really at all, at least I didn't think so. However, I thought it was going to be A LOT more violent and gorey and it really wasn't at all. I wish we got to see the croc more first off. Second, there were basically two scenarios for the deaths in this film... A. We saw people eaten in the daylight but VERY fast and no blood barely at all and; B. People were eaten when it was darker out, we heard crunches but again barely any blood or severed limbs. Kind of disappointed in that aspect of the film I have to say, from the cover art on the DVD box, you think it's going to be a giant croc ripping apart people violently, blood everywhere left and right, however, not so much. But that doesn't mean it wasn't good. The sound effects were very good and sounded great, especially the snapping of the crocs jaw, his movements in the cave, and the mouth crunches. The final showdown in the croc's spacious bachelor pad was insanely intense and incredibly nerve racking, awesome. The croc looked pretty good too when we saw him. I thought the acting was pretty decent for a direct-to-video movie and I actually cared for some of the characters at times as well, it wasn't Academy Award hour, but it was a lot better than other movies in its class for sure. All in all, I have to say I liked it and had a good time watching it and waiting to see what was going to happen, just wish there was more gore and more croc. So that's my little review on the film, but did any one else feel a little deceived by the cover art/disappointed by the lack of gratuitous gore?

Actually, it wasn't direct to video. It was a theaters, just not very long, and didn't make much

I just finished watching it, and I enjoyed it as well. There probably could have been more gore, but I'm not much of a gore person to begin with. I don't dislike it, but sometimes gratuitous gore is used to counterbalance a lack of story or characters. That being said, I liked the way the early kills were fast and not very gory. It showed how fast the croc can strike and it helped build up suspense for the later kills. The tension was very well done once they landed on the island and especially building up to the climax. What struck me most is the way that McLean was able to create a feeling of claustrophobia in the wide-open Australian outback with the rising tide. I also liked the acting, but I'm already of a fan of Mitchell from Pitch Black and Vartan from Alias. I'll definitely recommend this to people!

-Yeah I realized it was a limited release after I posted lol, but I'm surprised it didn't do better, maybe if they released wide from the start? Anyways..

-Thats something that I also noticed, the rising tide was a very good touch and especially once we saw from the trees on the island how far up the water rises! I see what you're saying about the gore, I just wanted at least one ridiculously gorey scene for the Hell of it, but the lack of that did not take away from the film at all. The way they show the croc attack people so quickly also contributed to the tension and excitement of the movie I agree.

I say that it's the *beep* marketing they used to make the film seem like a teen horror-gorefest. The posters they used here are just more... I dunno, "atmospheric". :P
