Weinstein Co. blows it again...

ROGUE is an excellent creature feature and they could have promoted this to a successful theatrical run. It did not deserve to be dumped straight to DVD (I say straight to DVD because it didn't play in any theater in L.A. that I know of). These guys are too stupid to even know when they've got a cool movie in hand.

Reviewers agree:

Bottom line -- Rogue is the best damned killer crocodile movie to be made in more than a decade. Oddly enough it's also the one that had the hardest time reaching audiences. It never ceases to amaze me how far worse films get huge releases when quality ones like this do little more than sit on the shelf waiting for the blessing of the great home video gods. Hopefully this movie will find its fanbase on DVD. It's truly deserving.

It's really mind blowing...Rogue is really a brilliant monster movie...I can't believe they didn't know how to market it. If you don't know how to market a good genre movie, and you're a distribution company focusing on genre movies, then maybe you're in the wrong business...
But it's happening a lot these days: [REC] which is great, is also destined to DTV land, Midnight meat Train, which I haven't seen but I heard good things about it, it's being dumped in less that 100 theatres...

weinsteins are no longer involved with dimension they split from the company. But they haven't faired any better most of the movies they produced after leaving dimension have been big bombs except for Rob Zombies Halloween.

It played at my theater for a week or 2

The movie had a theatrical run in many countries besides America, which sucks because this is SOOO Much better than "Primeval" and "Lake Placid", which I loved! How could Dimension release "Black Christmas" to theaters and not this? It's a head scratcher.

It had a theatrical run in america, just a very short one.

Hardly. In the US it was released on April 25th in a total of 10 theaters for a duration of 7 days. It made just over 10k. Terrible for a small release, but then again it's genre is quite different then other limited releases which attract a different kind of film watcher. It's hard to speculate what kind of success "Rogue" might have had if available to the masses. Either way it was a treat to those who were able to see it.

10 theaters? Wow, im surprised my theater even got it.

The Weinsteins' retained the label Dimension Films when they broke away from Miramax. They ARE the ones responsible for putting ROGUE out in the United States. And where's the damn Blu Ray?
