Do crocs actually growl?

They don't, do they?

reply

Yes I believe they do.

They do.

Not only do they growl, bur in mating season the males have a low-frequency booming growl that is so powerful, that it makes the water above their backs dance about and splash like crazy ... this phenomenon can be seen in David Attenborough's documentaries, "Planet Earth" and "Life in Cold Blood".

But you ARE Blanche ... and I AM.

They growl, but they don't snarl before attacking, which I believe happens in every other croc movie. I'm glad they had enough sense to lower the volume for this one to the point where you need to strain to hear it, and have enough time to go "oh *beep* I love the way this movie downplayed the ferocity so much so it was all the more threatening.

Nothing is more reliable than a man whose loyalties can be bought with hard cash.

Yeah, they do. Scary, eh ?

Most Australian reptiles can vocalise -- I don't know if it's a reptile thing in general, world-wide. Some of them have lighter voices, though -- more like a throaty hiss -- but some of them, like large goannas, can growl so loudly it's almost like a deep screech.

Do alligators growl too, I wonder ?

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

reply

they can make a guttural growl when attacking something...they also hiss when pissed off.

reply

All crocodilians can vocalize.

I still believe that peace and plenty and happiness can be worked out some way. I am a fool.
