Based on a real event ?

OK, the actual movie is pure fantasy, but has a similar story like that actually happenend in Kakadu National Park ? People attacked by Croc and isolated, without means of communication, somewhere in the wilderness ? It is quite a big place and I imagine if it happens it will take quite a while till you can expect a search team.

From what Greg McLean said in his commentary, Rogue is based on a real event....that of the croc named Sweetheart.

I don't think Sweetheart ever killed anyone.

There was a story a few (four, five?) years ago where a croc in NT attacked a small group and several of the people had to climb trees and outwait the reptile over many hours.

Not trying to be mean, but there is no record of Sweetheart ever killing a human. The papers inaccuratley named him a 'killer croc' but with 15 reported attacks from 1974 to 1979 he never harmed more than property and human ego. The one in the museum is recorded as a 16.9 foot 780 kg bull, although many (including myself) believe the real sweetheart is a croc named Cassius who was caught in the same area and now lives with George Craig on Green island. He has the tip of his snout cut off from what looks like a propeller and the tip of his tail is missing too, and he comes in at just under 18 feet, although weight unknown. The fact that the museum croc was killed (through over-drugging or drowning, depending on the source) was disgusting and should never had happened for him to be in a museum to begin with, but he paid the ultimate price for being an 'inconvenience'. Whichever the croc, 'sweetheart' put thumb-size holes in metal boats and dumped many people in the water, but as for recorded attacks, deaths, or 'swallowings', Ive yet to find a source that says he was guilty at all.

This movie is based on Sweetheart. He was an enormous croc with a bad temperment. It had a liking for attacking boats. So much so that it's face had damage from motorboat propellers. There's no real proof that it actually managed to kill anyone, but at its size, it's very possible that it did. Smaller ones have been known to pick off people who don't watch themselves.

Either way, they hunted it down and killed it. Crocodiles have the ability to memorize habits. Boats that pass through the area on a usual basis would be noted by Sweetheart and attacked repeatedly. It's bad for business, not to mention a hazzard. So they killed it. Hard to mistake it for another croc, given the marks all over its face.

Wasting is what humans do best. I'm just excelling in my field.

I disagree. Have you actually been to see Cassius? Do so and then tell us what you think. Im not saying that 'Sweetheart' thats in the museum wasnt the one who attacked, but that he wasnt the ONLY one. Cassius has far more damge to his face and tail than the stuffed museam croc AND was taken from the same area. And sure, a croc that size could easily have taken people before, but we are discussing human kept records here, so supposition is pretty pointless.

Also, they didnt go with the intention of killing Sweetheart, they were trying to relocate him to a farm, but he died during the extraction. Thats fact, but its still unclear whether he was overdosed on drugs or whether the drugs just nade him relax and drown as he was pulled underwater. If they were just trying to kill him as you say, drugs would never have even been used. I agree, he was a problem to the economy, which is why he was hunted, which was ridiculous, but if they were just trying to kill him, the massive effort that was used would never have been attempted.
