Rocky Balboa script (Puncher's Chance) Featuring Clubber Lang

I just found the final version of Stallone's script online: http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/ROCKY.pdf

It includes Clubber as the third commentator. And as I accurately predicted, he is good natured and has nothing but respect for Rocky. He even says: "My prediction? Pain." Too bad this didn't happen!

I like the way Clubber's presented here--he seems at peace with himself and his past and is actually able to laugh at himself. Shame he didn't end up in the movie.

Agreed, it would have been another crowd-pleasing moment of nostalgia in a movie already filled with it.

Does anyone know the real reason why Clubber Lang did not appear in this movie?

reply

Mr. T was filming his reality show at the time and was not available to do it. No, seriously.

Honestly, I'm a huge fan on this instalment ans it's my second favourite after the original. I strongly feel like the movie was perfect as it is. The editor(s) made a great job.

I think that this line is too cheesy and wouldn't have fitted in the more serious and dramatic setting of this movie. This is the kind of line I would have seen in Rocky IV ou maybe V (afterall it does have that stupid "come on Dad, he took my room" line said my Rocky Jr. during Rocky's fight with Tommy Gun).

Furthermore, I've seen the deleted scenes on DVD and let me tell you... I feel it was a good thing they stayed in the editing room. Even though some are kinda interesting, they weren't necessary to the movie.

So yeah, sometimes things don't end up in the movie and there's a good reason for it.
